Back with some more killer animals in my new installment of When Animals Attack I pretty much marathoned horror movies in June/July lol. Today I am going to do the movies that were in the book from M-R that I could find for free download and I will mention those I didn’t get to watch at the end.
3.5 monkey stars
Monkey Shines (1988) – Athlete Allan (Jason Beghe) becomes quadriplegic after a horrific traffic accident. His friend Geoffrey (John Pankow), who is conducting experiments with monkeys, offers Allan a well-trained monkey named Ella to keep him company and raise his spirits. But the initially healthy bond, which even enables Allan to form a romantic relationship with Melanie (Kate McNeil), gradually disintegrates once Ella begins to channel Allan’s underlying rage and takes it out on his loved ones.
So in this movie I actually felt bad for the monkey because of the experimental treatments they did on Ella so I was rooting for her…lol.
Allan is stuck in his wheelchair and can’t do anything for himself so one of his friends who is conducting experiments on Monkeys decides to try out the monkey on Allan. Basically the monkey is kind of like a service
dog (monkey) and she retrieves things for him and helps him do all sorts of things but a side effect of the experiment is she gets very attached to Allan and it seems that when Allan is mad she gets mad and if he wants someone dead that person ends up dying, but nobody knows how the monkey is getting out.
It had some creepy moments but was kind of slow. Overall, it wasn’t a bad one I just felt so bad for the monkey.
3.5 ugly piranhas stars
Piranha (1978) – When flesh-eating piranhas are accidentally released into a summer resort’s rivers, the guests become their next meal.
When looking for some missing teens Paul and Maggie unknowingly let out some experimental flesh-eating piranhas and they are headed to find food at a summer resort. Paul and Maggie do their best to get down river and have to brave the water in a raft that doesn’t stay together to well as they try and make it to the resort. You have your stupid officials who won’t listen as they don’t want to be out money with the resort, so your typical water creature feature.
I actually enjoyed this one and didn’t find myself overly bored as I have been with some of them. It reminded me a lot of Jaws but with nasty piranhas but it was still pretty cool. Evidently everyone likes these as there are several sequels. 🙂
3.75 scary lion stars
Prey (2007) – Hungry lions at a South African game reserve trap a woman (Bridget Moynahan) and her two stepchildren inside a car.
I dubbed this Cujo on steroids and a lot more interesting!! What was suppose to just a routine tour out on a game reserve becomes a fight for survival as they have to wait and hope that someone realizes they are not coming back and go looking for them. Meanwhile, there are some very hungry lions who are just waiting for them to take a step out of the vehicle. The stepmother was wanting to bond with her stepchildren but I don’t think this is what she had in mind. 🙂
So as you can tell it mostly takes place inside the vehicle and they don’t have just the lions to worry about but it’s very hot and they are running out of any sort of food or water. I wasn’t sure how this was going to go or if I would like because it did remind me a lot of Cujo which I found so very boring the one time I decided to watch it. This though was much more entertaining and it could be because they are in Africa with lions, who doesn’t want to watch a scary lion movie!! 🙂
So there are a lot of S movies so I am putting some here and then probably the rest on their own post.
3 raging baboon stars
Shakma (1990) – Students are trapped with a testy baboon while playing a fantasy game in a research building.
Another movie where I rooted for the test subject monkey..err baboon. Some students who work in the research building are having a fun night with their professor being the one setting it up. They are suppose to be playing D&D but I don’t think they have any clue what Dungeons and Dragons was because what they were playing didn’t look anything like what I know of that role playing game. Anyway they are pretty much locked into this building and have walkie talkies to check in with but the baboon Shakma gets loose and it’s not happy it’s raging and was pretty cool!
The baboon was the best part of this movie as the rest of it was not that great of acting and kind of boring.
So I will be honest I didn’t watch this one. I know I know everyone loves it but I think it’s just way more stupid than I can handle. I have seen bits and pieces of it when my dad watches it as he loves them all. I just wanted to feature it as I know everyone else seems to enjoy it. I myself can’t believe there are 5 movies!!! 🙂
2.5 wierd stars
Sharktopus (2010) – A half-shark, half-octopus creature specially created for the military, goes on a rampage of terror in Mexico while a scientist who helped created it tries to capture or kill it.
I have watched this one enough times that I didn’t take the time out to watch it again but it’s kind of up there with Sharknado but I like it enough to actually watch it now and then. Where do people come up with these syfy movies! My dad loves them and watches them everytime they are on which doesn’t seem to be as much anymore. Syfy isn’t as fun as it use to be.
My favorite part is when this guy is yelling by the ocean and I am like yep he is dead and there comes the sharktopus and swallows him up. I was like dummy, crazed creature in the ocean, you don’t stand that close to the water! 🙂
Movies I didn’t watch: Night of the Lepus (I really wanted to watch this one!), Of Unknown Origin, Orca, Pig Hunt, Prophecy, Rats, and Razorback. (They should make more of these B rated movies free to stream! 🙂
So that are all the ones I have for this post, stay tuned for some more killer animal movies next Saturday!
