Waiting on Wednesday ~ Horror
Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. Now called Can’t Wait Wednesday hosted by Wishful Endings. It’s where we display a book that we can’t wait to read because it sounds so good. 🙂
When treasure hunters excavate the long-lost wreck of the steamship Arcadia from a Kansas cornfield, a buried creature awakens – a mindless assassin of accursed earth, shaped like a man though in no way mortal, created to kill a slave trader in 1856.
With the original target long dead, the monster sets its sight on the man’s closest surviving descendant . . . a burned-out IT technician named Ben Middleton. Nothing could have prepared Ben for the horror now aimed directly at his lackadaisical life. But he isn’t only being chased by the monster, and it’s not just his own life in danger.
Ben must pull himself together to not only save himself, but his estranged teenage son, Charley. Yet who are the mysterious people chasing him, and how do you stop a 150-year-old monster with no ‘Off’ switch?
I like a good creature feature and this sounds interesting. It comes out in September by Severn House Pub.
1914. The outbreak of war. In the French city of Arras, a Father is brutally murdered. The Catholic Inquisition – still powerful, but now working in the shadows – sends its most determined and unhinged of Inquisitors, Poldek Tacit to investigate: his mission to protect the Church from those who would seek to undermine it, no matter what the cost.
Yet as Tacit arrives, armed forces led by Britain and Germany confront each other across No Man’s Land. As the Inquisitor strives in vain to establish the truth behind the murder and to uncover the motives of other Vatican servants seeking to undermine him, a beautiful and spirited woman, Sandrine, warns British soldier Henry Frost of a mutual foe even more terrible lurking beneath the killing fields that answers to no human force and wreaks their havoc by the light of the moon. Faced with impossible odds and his own demons, Tacit must battle the forces of evil, and a church determined at all costs to achieve its aims, to reach the heart of a dark conspiracy that seeks to engulf the world, plunging it ever deeper into conflict.
Morally complex and fast paced, this is a gripping work of dark fiction set in an alternative twentieth century, where humanity’s desire for love, compassion and peace face daunting challenges in a world overwhelmed by total war and mysterious dark forces.
So I am kind of curious about this one but at the same time not sure, but wanted to feature it as I like a good werewolf book and hope this will be one! 🙂 It’s the start of a trilogy out from Reddoor Publishing and looks like it could be a reprint ask I see Goodreads has it from 2105. Netgalley has it coming out in September so must have been republished by a different publisher.
