At twenty-five, after five years as her mother's caregiver, it's time for Shelby to experience freedom and adventure. Time for travel, college and romance. But when she visits Virgin River, she runs into Luke Riordan, decidedly not whom she has in mind.
A handsome Blackhawk pilot, Luke exited the army after twenty years, four wars and having been shot out of the sky three times. At thirty-eight he's tough and jaded. His major was in one-night stands, with a minor in commitment avoidance.
Technically, these two are all wrong for one another. But sometimes what you want and what you need are two different things...two very good things.
Barb and I have really been enjoying the Virgin River series. After some not so great buddy reads last month we decided we needed some a bit of fluff so decided to do another one in this series and I am glad we did! Go check out her review at Booker T’s Review after you check out mine!
Here is what I thought
Although this one had a sad part in it that I sort of seen coming it ended up being a really good read and I am glad we dove back into the Virgin River series.
Shelby is only twenty – five and for the last five years she had spent it taking care of her ailing mother. Now that her mom has passed on it’s time for her to have some freedom and adventure. She heads to Virgin River to where her uncle Walt lives.
Luke is a blackhawk pilot who has finished with the military after twenty years and has come to Virgin River because he bought some cabins to fix up to rent. He is thirty-eight and a bit jaded not only because of his military experience but because of a past relationship. He doen’t want a relationship and just prefers to go from one night stand to another.
Shelby hasn’t had a chance to have any kind of relationship because of taking care of her father, and she thinks she knows what she wants. Luke shouldn’t have been what she wanted because he wasn’t at all what she had in mind and she knew what his take was on things. He was going to just be a little fun she had before going into nursing, but things changed.
I really liked Shelby and Lukes stories and thought their relationship was kind of sweet. I guess some might call this an age gap story but I was always someone who liked older guys so I don’t see it…lol. Not only did I like the plot line with the MC’s but I also enjoyed more of Walt and Muriel as well as all my favorite Virgin River characters. As I said above though there was a sad part in this one that wasn’t so fluffy, but it still was the fluff I needed. 🙂
I recommend this series (that is completely different from the tv show!) I always have to say that because they are different as night and day. 🙂
