Some people have everything figured out—Andrea Nash is not one of those people.
After being kicked out of the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea’s whole existence is in shambles. All she can do is to try to put herself back together, something made easier by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend Kate Daniels.
When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano—the male alpha of the Clan Bouda and Andrea’s former lover—die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate…and must work with Raphael. As Andrea’s search for the killer leads her into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta, she knows that dealing with her feelings for Raphael might have to take a back seat to saving the world…
Here we are with the latest in our series review. Since Barb was told we should read #5.5 before diving into #6 we went ahead and did that this month so here are our thoughts on Gunmetal Magic. Once you have checked out mine go over and check out what Barb had to say!
So I was kind of excited to try out this one because it was about Andrea and she is one of my favorite characters but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped too.
Andrea works for Kate and she gets a call and is assigned to work on an incident where several shifters where killed working on a site. She finds out that the site is owned by Raphael which only brings out her ansty feelings about her ex-mate. She can be the better person and work alongside him and not let him get to her…yeah right.
In this one we get more background about what happened to Andrea and how it has affected her thoughts on packs and the bouda in particular. She also comes to term with their beastkin self more in this one and learns to embrace herself and who cares what anyone else thinks.
As much as I wanted Andrea and Raphael to get back together the road to that happening to way to many ansty turns that really drove me crazy. There was so many times I wanted to smack one or the other and sometimes both at the same time which I think is why it lowered my love for the book.
One of my favorite characters in this book would have to be the young bouda Ascanio, he really cracked me up. I also liked Roman and would like to know more about him. We did get some brief encounters with Kate and Curran which just made me want to read another the series.
Overall, it was a decent addiction to the series but I am ready to get back to Kate and Curran.
The narrator Renee Raudman does a really great job with this series and I like how she gave Andrea a little bit of a different voice especially when she was in beastkin form as it kind of sounded like she had a mouth full of canine teeth and easy to imagine in your head when you listened to her.
