Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.
Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.
Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.
Barb and I have started yet another series and after reading this first book in the series it will now be added to the rotation of series…lol. I think this book was just what we both needed. After checking out what I thought head over to Booker T’s Farm to see what Barb thought!
Here is what I thought
It takes place in a world where magic is a big deal and not everyone has it but having it makes you a bit better than others, especially if you are a Prime which means you have more or less a superpower. These Primes have taken over the word and are pretty much the governing powers. They are called houses, like House Montgomery, House Pierce, etc.
Nevada, has what she considers kind of a simple power, but it could be much more if she would actually use it to it’s fullest ability. She also keeps it secret because it is a power that others would like to use because she is basically a human lie detector. It works well with her families job because they are private detectives. Though after her father died and her mother injured it’s up to her and her younger siblings, plus cousin to keep it going. They were bought by House Montgomery but they usually let them just do there own thing, that is until Adam Pierce decided to set fire to a building and killing a policeman.
House Pierce hires House Montgomery to find Adam and he tells Nevada that she must do it. She knows that he thinks her and her families agency expendable and she has to do it or they won’t have an agency to run, but she has no idea how she is going to bring in a man so powerful and has no moral issues about just buring someone to death if they look at him wrong.
Then she meets someone just as strong as Adam and that is Mad Rogan. It seems that Rogan has been asked to find his cousin who was seen with Adam and is charged with the murder as well. He is a bit of an outcast in his family because of his power and the fact he went into the military where they basically used him as a weapon. He also doesn’t seem to care if he just kills someone as long as he gets what he wants, he is sexy and dangerous and Nevada knows she is in trouble as soon as she sees him.
Nevada and Mad Rogan must work together to try and stop Adam from achieving what he is wanting which could burn down all of Houston. Will Nevada survive Mad Rogan?
I do believe this author duo loves to write very strong brooding alpha males and also women who can cut them down to size! I love the Kate Daniels series and I can see a lot of similiarities to Kate and Curran in Mad Rogan and Nevada and I LIKE IT! 😉 🙂 I need more Rogan and Nevada like right now! 🙂
I just don’t think there was much about this books I didn’t like. I like the setting, the interesting magic system, the two main characters, the side characters…I just loved this book and devoured it pretty quickly.
Highly recommend if you like these types of books.
Renee Raudman is the same narrator from the Kate Daniels series which I think really gave me Kate Daniel vibes but still I felt like it was a bit different so that was good. She is a really good narrator.
