A small Georgia town erupts in panic when a young college professor is found brutally mutilated in the local diner. But it's only when town pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton does the autopsy that the full extent of the killer's twisted work becomes clear. Sara's ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, leads the investigation -- a trail of terror that grows increasingly macabre when another local woman is found crucified a few days later. But he's got more than a sadistic serial killer on his hands, for the county's sole female detective, Lena Adams -- the first victim's sister -- wants to serve her own justice. But it is Sara who holds the key to finding the killer. A secret from her past could unmask the brilliantly malevolent psychopath .. or mean her death.
Barb and I are starting a new series to binge! I have read the first book but after that it will be new to me and I am excited! I think we are both going to enjoy this series! After checking out my review head on over to Barbs at Booker T’s Farm!
Here is what I thought
So this is a reread for me but it reminded me of why this authors books can be very polarizing for some people and triggering. She writes about some really horrible crimes!
Sara is the peditrician in Grant County and also the coroner which I find to be an unusual mix of jobs. When Sara finds a young college professor brutally mutilated in the local diner it sets off a panic in the small town. Make matters worse it’s the sister of sole female detective in the town.
Sara has to work closely with the local police chief which happens to be her ex-husband and they have a very interesting relationship that is kind of touchy at times. When another woman is found crucified a few days later it really puts everyone into overdrive to find out who is doing it.
I really like Sara because she is kind of a fragile person but at the same time a strong person. She has had something happen to her in the past that is still affecting her now that she has to deal with while trying to help figure out what happened the these women. Not to mention the tension between her and her ex-husband. I really like the Jeffery the police chief but I did want to smack him a few times because how he is handling his relationship with Sara is aggravating especially when she told him or at least left him information to read about what happened to her years ago.
Since I read this before I had remembered who the killer was so that wasn’t a bit surprise but as I read it I did remember how gruesome the author could get with her books. I am looking forward to reading the next one since it will be new to me. 🙂
I thought Kathleen Early did a great job of narrating this one.
