The Week In Review #96

July 10, 2016 Memes 35

BMR,OHMy (1)The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What are you reading? Β If you have never joined in on these meme’s you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Boy is it hot, but this week was not as bad as the last couple of weeks and we did get some rain. My cousin had a great crop of cucumbers and asked if I wanted some to can for pickles. I said sure since mine wasn’t producing much and so on Monday I spent all day canning with my cousin. I found out real quick that I don’t pack very good cause when we got done I laughed at how much space was left in my cans, oh well, live and learn, right? πŸ™‚ Sorry my pics are sideways but you can still see what I mean…lol.

I do know that when my spaghetti squash all get big and turn yellow, oh my I am going to have a mess. I plan on doing a new How Does My Garden Grow this week so you can see some pics. πŸ™‚

Dad and I went and seen the new Independence Day movie and it was pretty good but really it just reminded me of the first one but with out the cool speech by Bill Pullman (though he does give a small one). It was entertaining though and that is what I go for. πŸ™‚

Some of you have probably seen the knew post I am doing during the week. I haven’t put it on a set day so pretty much when I think a day needs something extra I put it on. Michelle of Limabean Designs made me button and it’s so pretty! I am just putting a bit of spotlight on some books I have to review but not got a chance to get to them yet. πŸ™‚

The spider aspect is so creepy but I am not a fan of jumping around to different countries, it confuses me…lol. Reminds me of a Syfy channel movie. πŸ™‚ Canning takes a lot of time, it took me all day to do those pickles and I was a bit aggravated that it looks like there is only half a can…got to learn to stuff more in…lol.

    • Stormi

I know, I know, I failed…lol. The more I try not to get books the more I get! πŸ™‚

Ha ha, that is one thing about having the same taste, we are so enabling each other…lol. But it’s books so that is okay. πŸ™‚

Is Imogen Church reading Cabin 10? I loved her narration on In the Dark Dark Woods. The pickles sound delicious! My garden is not doing well this year. I think my zucchini plant is dead and I lost 2 tomato plants because they had caught something. Luckily we have a really great farmers market nearby. Have a great week!

Yes she is reading Cabin 10, I haven’t tried her other book but if I like this one then I might have to get it. πŸ™‚

Sorry to hear your garden is not doing well. If all my green maters go read I will be canning like no other cause there is a bunch! πŸ™‚ Just having problems getting them red…lol. I do have a fungus or something on one plant. πŸ™

  2. Bea @Bea's Book Nook

So many good looking books! The Hatching and Ruth Ware’s books look good. I also requested The Masked City. What kind of pickles did you make? They look like bread and butter. Happy reading and have a good week!

The Hatching was different but good. Gave me the willies…lol. They are Dill Pickles made from a pickling spice package which I haven’t tried before so we shall see how they taste in a few weeks or so. πŸ™‚ Bread and Butter takes to much sugar to make them and my dad is diabetic so have to stick with Dill, but that is okay as they are my favorite. πŸ™‚

That’s nice you got a bit of rain this week, although it was still very warm. Here it’s been a warmer week. That canning looks fun!

Yay you got The Daydreamer Detective! I hope you’ll enjoy it! Have a great week πŸ™‚

Not sure if canning ins fun, but it’s nice to have a stock pile of foods that I can eat during the winter and doesn’t cost me as much. Just the price of buying the cans the first time, but they are reusable so next time wont cost as much. πŸ™‚ Never know when you might not have food money and need to get into the the stock pile. πŸ™‚

  4. Greg

Glad it cooled down a bit, looks like the canning went well. πŸ™‚ I’m all ready to read The Masked City when it comes out, having just finished Invisible Library, and The Woman in Cabin 10 I can’t wait to read either.

How did you like The Last Word?

Yeah, the canning didn’t go to bad. πŸ™‚ Just takes forever…lol. I am curious about The Masked City and Cabin 10 too. Can’t wait to get to them.

I liked The Last Word but it was kind of sad! Cozies are not suppose to be sad…lol.

  5. Barb (boxermommyreads)

Great haul. I couldn’t resist The Masked City either. I also grabbed Rot and Ruin so there will be no enabling today. I love the looks of Mummy’s Little Angel though. Great job canning and you did so much better than I would. Can’t wait to see more pics.

Glad I didn’t enable today…lol. I have a feeling when my spaghetti squash all turn yellow I am going to be very busy canning as the vines are taking over my whole garden and I am so not lying…lol. I have a vine going through one of my tomato plants!! lol.

You did have a good reading week, didn’t you? What a shame not to enjoy your birthday! As I’ve got older, I tend to make even more of a fuss – after all I don’t know how many more I’ve got! Hope you enjoy yours, even if it’s only a little bit…

    • Stormi

I did, it helps when I have a lot of work to do outside and can take my audios with me. πŸ™‚ I have hated my birthday for awhile now…lol. It’s just another day. Maybe it’s being single and not having anyone to fuss over it makes a difference. Glad you enjoy yours. πŸ™‚

  7. Kathy

You have a great haul. I don’t like horror but The Hatching does sound good. I’ll have to be brave and read this. Don’t worry about your birthday!! I hate them too and I actually sometimes forget how old I am. I hope you have a great week!

I love horror and The Hatching gave me the willies just cause of the spiders but I didn’t feel it was real scary…lol.

  8. Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight

Oh that looks so cool to can your own pickles! I imagine they probably taste better too. It just seems like everything homemade, home-grown, etc. always tastes better. A lot more work though.

Glad you enjoyed the movie, and it looks like you got some pretty new books! Plus you got a lot read, so it seems like you had a productive week πŸ™‚

It is pretty cool and they do taste pretty great. Cheaper overall to do it yourself than by from the store. πŸ™‚

I wondered what the new Independence Day movie was going to be like. It seems there are so many sequels and remakes at the moment. Don’t we have any new ideas or thoughts?

I’ve never pickled or preserved anything Stormi, so your pickles look pretty good to me!

I think while it is good to have goals you shouldn’t put too much pressure on not having accomplished much at each birthday. I used to do that a lot too. But that just made me unhappy while I actually have a pretty good life. Anyway I’m just trying to say don’t be too hard on yourself and celebrate the good things in your life today (in my timezone it is πŸ˜‰ ). Happy birthday.

Mmmm, I love making pickles! It’s a lot of fun and they’re great to have around. I’m a fan of the bread and butter pickles and my husband likes the dill and garlic ones. Lol. As usual, we’re on opposite ends of the spectrum. Glad to hear your week was not as hot. It got cold here over the weekend, and I’d rather have the heat at this time of year.
