The Week In Review #298

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme’s you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Another week down in the doom and gloom of social distancing but I think our state is opening up some things! I know Hardees is opening it’s lobby on Monday and of course dad can’t wait to go and visit with friends as that was his usual morning routine and of course I will go with him. I am not a social butterfly but even I missed the morning routine. Curious to see how things go.   Update: Evidently the big honchos of Hardees will not let ours open up till JUNE!!! So back to my hovel of boredom. This is me trying not to rant.

Our church is going back inside as well but things will be different still. They will only allow so many in the sanctuary (first come first serve), then let some stay in the lobby and watch on facebook live. They will put some in the fellowship hall with facebook live and you can sit out in your car if you don’t want to go in and listen to it on the radio. I will be in children’s church so we shall see how that goes. We can wear mask if we want but I am pretty sure hardly anyone will be wearing them. They did say if you are a high risk to wear them.

This was from our first time having a service outside, took pic from my car.

Dad is determined to build me a greenhouse (though I think I will be doing most the building as he is 72 and not as spry as he thinks he is!) I spent a lot of time this week working on the area as it had my old garden beds. I had to get them up and out of the way which was not easy (thankfully my bro came over and helped), then my brother helped use the tractor and tried to flatten the area out. My arms and really just upper body hurts, not use to such things…lol.

This is where my greenhouse will be so maybe by next year I will be having garden plants…lol.

The weather here has been kind of hot for this time of year and that just makes storms which I get anxiety over and do not like. It’s supposed to have stormed last night and this morning but I am praying it goes away!

I got super rambly this week! Stay safe and happy reading! 🙂

What you might have missed on my blog

Books I have added

  • The Fallen Girls – A Detectives sister is missing so she goes back to a place she never wanted to go again, home. Got this one for a blog tour and I normally enjoy Bookoutures books so hope I like this one. 🙂

Books read last week

  • Hood Academy – Sort of your typical run of the mill YA paranormal book. I thought it was okay but had some slow moving parts that dragged it down.
  • All Your Twisted Secrets – Another typical YA book but this time mystery/thriller. It was okay but not great.
  • A Field Guide to Getting Lost – A cute contemporary middle grade book about blending families and making new friends.
  • Killer Characters – Just don’t even get me started on how much I hated the ending to this series. Lets just say not a cozy ending!
  • Every Heart a Doorway – I wasn’t a huge fan of this like a lot of readers I know but it was okay. The mystery definitely saved it.

Currently reading

  • Lost Books and Old Bones – The third book in the Scottish Bookshop series and I picked this series to catch up on in May (3 books) and I am have about 5 hours left and I am enjoying it. I just love a book set in Scotland…sigh.
  • Burn the Dark – You might have seen this on my list before because I was listening to it on Scribd, and in typical tick me off fashion on that site, they kicked it off before I had finished listening too it but miraculously it’s back after I paid for another month! So hopefully I can finish it this time as I was almost half done.
  • The Slug Queen Chronicles – Needed a middle grade cause that is my mood and not sure about it yet as I just started it. All I know is a girl sees things in colors.
  • Titan’s Day – It’s that time when I just can’t settle on a book so picked this one up and I am about 12% into it and it’s okay so far.
  • A Very English Murder – This wasn’t holding my attention which is why I tried the books above…lol. I think I am only about 15% or so into it.

What might be up next

  1. I am still so worried about things opening up so quickly. The masks are very annoying and really can’t be worn for too long, I always get super light headed.
It’s cool you are able to watch the service from your car. I am not a big church goer but I was watching a few local churches do facebook lives.
Greenhouse would be awesome, didn’t you have one already? Why do I keep thinking you did.

Have a great week, Stormi! Stay Safe and Happy Reading xx

I think in really affected areas they should stay closed a bit longer but we have only had ten cases in our county (19 different towns), so I don’t see why we can’t half open. I get not filling up the restaurants and I think they should make you call ahead to secure a place even for fast food places. It would be easier than turning people away. I am just ready to go back to normal.

I did have a small greenhouse but it has gotten torn up because it was cheaply made. Dad has big ambitious plans so we shall see. 🙂

  2. It is confusing here since Missouri is opening but St. Louis County is still on stay at home orders. I plan to just stay home as much as possible but there are a lot of cases around here. I do go to work so I am getting out of the house. It is good that your church has a plan in place to have services as safely as possible. I am excited about your greenhouse but I am sorry you are sore. Have a great week! Happy reading!

I think St. Louis County was one of the hardest hit places and where most of the cases are because here in my county we have only had 11 cases divided between like 19 towns. So can’t wait till normal is back to being normal!

  3. I think things are opening up too fast with cases still increasing, so we will continue to stay home. You have lots of good books. I enjoy the Benedict Jacka and Karin Slaughter but it doesn’t look like you liked them as much.

Take care, be kind and sensible!

I think it depends on where you are as where I am we hardly have any cases at all but then we are in a small town compared to like places in my state like St. Louis that are big and the most impacted. I just want things normal again. Those two books you like were reviewed by the other reviewer on my blog and not me, I haven’t read them. Kathy must not have liked them. 🙂 Have a great week!

    • Stormi

Yep, at least I started it! 🙂 Sort of wish I could get the audio for it as I am just in an audio mood…lol. That Greenhouse might not get done any time soon…lol. 🙂

      • I can see why your area is looking to open up, y’all are not very populated. But Dallas? We are so dense, it makes me very nervous opening things up. How exciting about the greenhouse going to be awesome! I’m sure it’s a lot of work though too. Have a great week and stay safe!

        • Stormi

Yeah, my county is 19 small towns and we have like 11 cases and that is it this whole time and one death. I think the big problem for Missouri is like St. Louis and KC, the big cities like with most states. I worry about both you and Michelle as your places are so populated!

  4. Hardees! I haven’t been to a Hardees in a while, I used to love going there.

I think the greenhouse idea sounds amazing! Good luck with it and hope it goes well!

Hunting November! Looking forward to that one haha!

    • Stormi

It’s been a meeting place for over a year now so it’s really bumming my dad cause it’s the only interaction he gets since he is 72 and retired. I am surprised I missed going and listening to the group of older guys and gals tell their stories over and over…lol.

Hope the greenhouse comes out looking amazing…lol.

      • Around here it seems to be McDonald’s that is the meeting place. 🙂 My friend and I in high school used to go to Hardee’s and eat like 15 mushroom and swiss burgers lol. When you’re young like that you can eat anything haha!!

        • Stormi

Hardees has coupons we can use if we want an the people we meet there use them and Mcdonalds doesn’t…lol. We have been going to Hardees so long we get special treatment from the regular workers…lol. 🙂

  5. A restaurant opened it’s doors for inside dining and was quickly shut down here. It’s only supposed to be take out brought out to your vehicle but they thought they could defy the orders. Guess that didn’t go so well. The greenhouse sounds fabulous. I always wanted one.

    • Stormi

Hardees said they are waiting for sneeze shields to get put in before they open up so that is why they couldn’t open yet so we can wait…lol. There are places like the cafe in town that is run by a husband and wife team and it’s their only income and I don’t think they will be able to afford things like that but still need to be open. We get take out to help support them about once a week or so and they are really thankful when anyone orders. (so not keto either that has about gone out the window as carbs are comfort food…lol.)

  6. That’s great things are opening up a little with you. We are seeing some stuff open here but restaurants and things like that other then curbside will be awhile. I think the problem is the bad apples who will behave without common sense ruining it for everyone! I have Lost Books and Old Bones on my Kindle but had completely forgotten about it. May need to get to it as a book set in Scotland sounds pretty great right now. Hope you’re having a great week!

    • Stormi

Yeah stupid people ruin everything! Lost Books and Old Bones was good and can’t wait to get to the other two in the series so I can be caught up! Catching up on my cozies will be a forever going process…lol.
