The Week In Review #256

July 14, 2019 Memes 18

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What are you reading? ย If you have never joined in on these meme’s you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

My birthday was on the 11th and so I went and seen the new Spiderman as there really wasn’t much out to see but I really enjoyed it. It’s came a long way from the first Amazing Spiderman movie where he was so ANGSTY! He is still an angsty teenager but not as bad…lol. I will say don’t go see it if you haven’t seen Endgames unless you have been spoiled by the internet and already know what all happens…lol.

So other than it be extremely hot here not much else has happened this week. My poor plants have taken a heat wave hit and are a bit droopy. ๐Ÿ™ I hope they hold on and pull through but one day the heat index was 105 so they got a bit scorched. I might complain about the heat but I am enjoying it too as that means NO RAIN and I am done with that for a bit. I know it won’t last long as we have had some pop up storms now and then but none of that real nasty stuff. Hope the south is doing okay and it doesn’t get as ugly as they keep saying it could.

Have a great week and happy reading!

What you might have missed on my blog

Books I have added

Netgalley

  • Don’t Say a Word – I am going to be reading the first one in this series soon so decided to grab the second one. I have heard it is supposed to be like Veronica Mars and so I am down for some of that! ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Molded 4 Murder – I LOVE this series and can’t wait to dig into this one! It’s so funny!

Birthday goodies

  • Titanshade – Barb got me this ebook because she knew I was really wanting to try it and it seemed like overdrive wasn’t going to get our recommendation for it. It looks like a sci-fi crime novel and I am really curious about it and I am sure Barb and I will be buddy reading this in the future! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Michelle was so sweet and sent me an amazon gift card and so I picked up a few things. Holding on to the rest of it in case something I must have pops up in the future…lol. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Claws – I am sure you can gather from the cover (which looks a lot like the cover of Jaws), that it’s about a giant crab and I love creature feature books and heard good things about it so I had to grab it! ๐Ÿ™‚
  • The Montauk Monster – I am slowly getting all of Hunter Shea’s books as he is one of my favorite horror authors and I love his creature feature books!
  • Cryptid Zoo – I think the title explains what it’s about a zoo full of cryptids! I am sure something bad will happen as people never learn you can’t put scary things in a zoo! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you, thank you, thank you both so much!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ *HUGS*

Freebies

Haven’t showed off any freebies in a while but while I was browsing some of my wishlists (yes I have more than one…lol) on amazon I found some were free! Check first if one catches your fancy as they are not all free now.

  • Oddjobs – Itโ€™s the end of the world as we know it, but someone still needs to do the paperwork. Morag Murray is one of those people who makes sure the apocalypse goes smoothly…lol. It’s supposed to be a comedy horror fantasy type. I just liked the cover mainly…lol.
  • Blind River – Curtis left Blind River behind to be an agent, now he has to go back to the one place he hates to investigate some disappearances.
  • They Mostly Come Out At Night – Mainly it was a cover grab and it was free and I am guessing at some point I wanted it because it was in one of my list…lol. It says it’s a dark fantasy and sometimes I can be down for that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Books read last week

ย

  • Word to the Wise – In every series there is normally that one you just don’t like as much as the rest and this was that one. I still really liked it but just not as much as the others. Review to come on Barb and I’s first buddy read of the month.
  • Storm Blown – Would have liked it more if I wasn’t angry at the kids for being stupid and the ending not wrapping up like I thought it should…lol. I do think kids would love it.
  • Changes – Boy howdy does that title say it all! Lots of things going on in this one and some major changes to Harry Dresden’s life!!! I must get to the next one now!

Currently reading

  • Shadow of Night – Still reading this big one because I had to give a lot of reading time to some other books. I am over half way through and it’s finally picking up to where it’s just not all history of the time and more about her getting help from the witches! I am around page 340 I believe.
  • The Revenge of Magic – I guess reading all those middle grade books sort of put me in the mood cause I grabbed this one up and even though it’s 400 pages I am already at page 201. I am really liking it so far and I am curious to see how it ends and if they cliffhang me I have book two…lol.
  • The Scent of Murder – A little slow for me right now but only about 14% into it and I know Barb loved it so hoping I do too!
  • Side Jobs – Seen where I needed to read this short story collection before Ghost Story and I can see why as there is a story from Murphy’s pov after what happened in Changes! I am about half way through this one.
  • Teeth in the Mist – I am like it though it’s still kind of confusing but the special effects are really cool. I think this is one that would be great to listen to while following along with the book, it would probably go better. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have about 4 hours left.

What might be up next

  • Left Fur Dead – Honestly I just want to read it for the bunny…lol. ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Murder’s No Votive Confidence – I like books set in Nantucket and I have not read a cozy with a candle maker.

How was your week? What did you get?

Your review is the reason I wanted to try Titanshade as it’s a little out of my comfort zone of reading but still has a crime element so I thought I might enjoy it. ๐Ÿ™‚

It is definitely feeling like summer now! I can’t really complain though because the weather has been so nice! Sunny every day for the last week or so. *knock on wood*

Glad to hear Spider Man was good.

Claws looks like fun! And Blind River looks amazing too.
