Sixteen-year-old Elizabeth Grey doesn't look dangerous. A tiny, blonde, wisp of a girl shouldn't know how to poison a wizard and make it look like an accident. Or take out ten necromancers with a single sword and a bag of salt. Or kill a man using only her thumb. But things are not always as they appear. Elizabeth is one of the best witch hunters in Anglia and a member of the king's elite guard, devoted to rooting out witchcraft and bringing those who practice it to justice. And in Anglia, the price of justice is high: death by burning.
When Elizabeth is accused of being a witch herself, she's arrested and thrown in prison. The king declares her a traitor and her life is all but forfeit. With just hours before she's to die at the stake, Elizabeth gets a visitor - Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful wizard in Anglia. He offers her a deal: he will free her from prison and save her from execution if she will track down the wizard who laid a deadly curse on him.
As Elizabeth uncovers the horrifying facts about Nicholas's curse and the unwitting role she played in its creation, she is forced to redefine the differences between right and wrong, friends and enemies, love and hate... and life and death.
The first book in an incredible new series set in a fantastical medieval world.

What I thought of this book

The Witch Hunter is a YA historical set in 1558 and in a place where there is a ban on doing magic. Anyone seen doing magic is burned at the stake. There are reformist that are rebelling the ban on magic and it’s causing a huge uproar and there is a lot of unrest among everyone.

Elizabeth Grey is a witch hunter and works along side her friend Caleb bring in witches. She had to go through a grueling training and trail to make it to where she is and she is very proud of being a hunter.  She has also caught the eye of the young king and because of it she got her hands on  certain herbs. She is caught with the herbs and automatically she is deem a witch, but she is not a witch. She is thrown in jail and awaits to be burned.

Caleb said he would come for her but he never shows up and then a man appears down in the Fleet and says he is there to help her. She finds out that he is Nicholas one of the most powerful wizards and at first Elizabeth’s instincts are to fight him, but she is weak with jail fever. Eventually she goes with him and finds out that maybe things she had been taught might not be as cut and dry as she thought.

The Witch Hunter was a really interesting story involving witches, prophecies, quest and a little bit of romance. I really liked Elizabeth as she was pretty kick ass and very dangerous when she wanted to be. She had a few minutes of poor poor pitiful me, but when faced with burning at the stakes or landing in a den of witches and your a witch hunter..well I think I would whine a bit too..lol.

I liked all the secondary characters, I even warmed up to Fifer after a while as she was not real welcoming to Elizabeth at first. I love George who was the Kings fool and always had a sloppy smile on his face. John was the quiet healer who nursed Elizabeth back to health. There was plenty of other characters that I hope to get to know when the next book comes out.

I only have one grib about the story and I can’t really explain it to much without giving away some of the plot. So I am just going to say that a certain person in my opinion should have been a wee bit more mad and hold a bit more of a grudge when this person finds out something about Elizabeth.

Other than that I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to see what will happen in the next book. I liked that it didn’t really leave you with an OMG cliffhanger even though it leaves you curious about what will happen next. If your a fan of witches, paranormal and YA then you might like this one.
