He’s the man behind the mission to track down the illegitimate children of England’s Royal Princes and help them get their due. But his deepest desire is far more personal…

Magnificent and stubborn. Fourteen years apart had not changed Chloe Steele, or Dominic’s love for her. He’d been a street urchin, a boy raised at court, and finally a magistrate, yet he’d never belonged anywhere—except by her side. Now Chloe devoted herself to girls threatened by scandal—like she had been. But she was in danger, and Dominic was determined to help—and hopefully make up for lost time…

Even in childhood, Dominic had made Chloe feel safe. Now she also felt thrillingly flustered by the powerful man he’d become, and by the longing he inspired. Because Dominic meant not only to protect her, but to untangle the lies that had separated them. Yet for Chloe, surrendering to temptation may be easier than risking a future that could ruin them both…

Dominic Hunter wheeled his curricle between the iron-mounted gates that bracketed the forecourt of the handsome Jacobean manor house.

What I thought of this book

Tall, Dark and Royal starts after the second book and it’s about Dominic and Chloe. I love Dominic, he is my favorite character in this series. Dominic is the guy in charge of finding the renegade royals and making sure they get their places in nobility.

Dominic has loved Chloe since they were kids but she was seduced by a royal and shamed her grandfather and he sent her off to her uncle who was a cruel man. Once she had Griffin he told her it was best she fake her death and so Dominic thought she was dead for a long time until Griffin found out she was alive. After  Dominic found out she was alive he has devoted his time to searching for her and in the end of book two she is found. (You just need to read the series. 🙂

So this novella is based on an older couple (not older to me but to some) as they are in their forties but it’s a love story that has spanned a great many years. It’s a great second chance at love story. Chloe works under the name of Mrs. Piper a weathly widow and she takes in young girls who have to face the same sort of fate that she did, but tries to help them fight off the scandal and place their babies in good homes.

One of the girls Jane is having a hard time with the man who is the father of her child. He is abusive and her family is afraid for their lives as well as Jane’s. Chloe takes her in and is willing to fight Robert but he is the nephew of a crime lord. Dominic wants to fight all her battles and this makes her a bit mad. She has a hard time trusting others because of what has happened to her in the past.

Dominic is fiercely loyal to Chloe and so protective of her now that he has found her. Chloe is full of spunk and determination and it can get her into a bit of trouble.

“Never mind, dear,” Chloe said as she extracted her pistol from her reticule. She pointed it at the crime lord. “Mr. Campworth, if you do not agree to my demands, I’ll have to shoot you. And then I suppose I’ll have to shoot Roger, too.”

For me this was probably one of the best novella’s I have ever  read and it might be because I love Dominic so much, but I just loved it! I think because you already know a bit about the two characters that it helped with how this novella could have so much in it and not have to use a lot of that time on explaining who the characters were.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series as the author has promised more of Dominic in the next two books, after all he does have to find the next two renegade royals. 🙂
