Welcome to Chapelwick, a leafy English town in the hills of Shropshire, where chocolate pecan cookies come with a helping of sabotage.
Maplemead Castle is crawling with ghosts, and the new owners need them gone. When Melody Bittersweet and the Girls’ Ghostbusting Agency arrive on scene, they quickly identify the troublemakers swinging from the chandeliers… literally.
A century ago, stunning trapeze artist Britannia Lovell plunged to her death, and has done every night since. But did she really just fall, or was there something more to her demise?
Forced to work with Leo Dark, her scoundrel ex, and infuriating, irresistible reporter Fletcher Gunn, Melody’s investigative powers are under strain (i.e. lost in a pink mist of lust and confusion). She needs her team on top form, but best friend Marina’s cake pipeline goes AWOL, assistant Artie’s distracted by a giant sausage roll, and the pug is scared witless by a lion.
Somewhere, hidden in the castle, is a heart-breaking secret, but what will it take to find it? And is there a chance it could set Britannia free, or is she doomed to repeat her last fateful act forever?
An utterly hilarious, gripping, spooktastic read for fans of HY Hanna, MC Beaton, Gina LaManna and Jana DeLeon.

First Line

Every now and then someone tells me how lucky I am to be able to see ghosts and I bite my tongue and sit on my hands so I don’t accidentally punch them in the face.

Here is what I thought

I think I have found a new favorite series and author, as the Chapewick mysteries just crack me up.

An American couple bought the Maplemead Castle and it’s full of ghost, so they have asked Melody Bittersweet and her ghostbusting gang to come and see what they can do. Meanwhile, the lady of the house finds out that Leo is offering his help and they could have their place on TV. So they decided to let them both help them with their ghost problem.

There is more than one ghost but only one that seems to not want anyone there and the couple decides to go stay at a B&B while and make the ghostbusters stay in the house. Melody is also being shadowed for the newspaper by Flecher Gunn, so he stays too. Now Melody is stuck in their with her ex-boyfriend, Leo Dark, and with the one man who makes her forget that he is her nemesis, Fletcher Gun.

The Mystery at Maplemead Castle is full of laugh out loud moments with three circus performers (who are a bit of a love triangle) and a Lion. A ghost LION!!! They are not the only ghost but they are the ones who surround the mystery and are the ones that really need to go to give the home some peace and quiet. Not only do we get all those ghosts but Lestat, the pug, gets to stay in the castle and is a part of the action.

All the characters in this story are so much fun, well maybe not the fembots (the two ladies who are really strange and work with Leo), but they play their part. Melody is just so quirky and fun, Marina is her bestie and protector, Artie is coming out of his shell and a lot of fun, Leo is well, Leo and Fletcher Gun is just sexy, and some ghost and you got a story filled with lots of fun!

I can’t wait to see what trouble Melody and the gang can get into next!

What are you waiting for go grab book one and this one! 🙂

I am so glad that I found this book series via Karen @ Well Read Pirate Queen and that she introduced me to Kim who asked me to be a part of this tour!

Recommend if you like

Laugh out loud snarky fun, quirky characters, ghost and a mystery.

Sidenote: Just like book one I will caution those who love traditional cozy mysteries because this one is not traditional and there is a bit of language and things that traditional cozy loves might not like. You have been warned, I would hate for anyone to get something they wouldn’t like.

I really think you will like it! In this one, Lestat tries to take on a ghost lion…poor little fellow. 🙂

  1. Wow. That’s some recommendation, Stormi! I just realized I’ve not been reading many cozies recently. Perhaps I should get back into them with this one.

It’s a fun series but heavy on the sexual tension though nothing has happened yet, but I kind of want to say get it done and over with…lol. It’s British, and their humor is a bit different but it’s still fun.
