In the latest Kate Daniels novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews, magic is coming and going in waves in post-Shift Atlanta—and each crest leaves danger in its wake…
After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate—former Beast Lord Curran Lennart—are adjusting to a very different pace. While they’re thrilled to escape all the infighting, Curran misses the constant challenges of leading the shapeshifters.
So when the Pack offers him its stake in the Mercenary Guild, Curran seizes the opportunity—too bad the Guild wants nothing to do with him and Kate. Luckily, as a veteran merc, Kate can take over any of the Guild’s unfinished jobs in order to bring in money and build their reputation. But what Kate and Curran don’t realize is that the odd jobs they’ve been working are all connected.
An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it—before it takes their city apart piece by piece…

Review

Magic Shift sort of had a lackluster ending but it didn’t bring down the overall enjoyment of this installment of the Kate Daniels series.

So I can’t say to much about this one as I don’t want to give anything away since it is book eight in the series, but I will say that Kate and Curran can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to just wanting to have some down time. It seems to be always one thing or another and this time there is a nasty ancient enemy to fight.

Things are a bit different for Kate and Curran now but when a shifter friend goes missing they pretty much jump right back into things and land in a mess. Nobody can figure out why Eduardo was kidnapped by some ghouls. The more they try to figure things out the stranger things get, like fighting really large giants! It’s one of those giants that almost takes Kate out, it’s a good thing she is a bit of a magical being!

I think the thing I liked the most about this book in the series was that you got a lot of Kate and Curran together! I don’t like it when Curran is gone…lol. They are always field full of lots of action from start to finish and it had some really funny parts! I do love all the other side characters as well.

I think the thing about the ending was is that I felt they were building up for this big fight scene with a huge entity and it seems a bit to easy. Not that I want casualties as I am pretty fond of everyone but there wasn’t even any real bad injuries or anything. It was like they found the person, and bam got rid of the person. Just to simple and kind of a let down, but I still enjoyed the book.

I can’t believe we only have two more Kate Daniel books left! Next up is Magic Binds! A part of me is a bit sad it’s almost over but a part of me is excited to see how it ends.

Our thoughts are pretty spot on for this one but of course, I had to mention Grendel. While I am sad to see the end in sight, I’m pretty darn stoked that we’ve managed to take out this whole series this year (not to mention All Soul’s Trilogy as well).

You and that dog…lol. 🙂 I forgot to mention Cuddles, I think that is my favorite animal…lol. Yes we did really good this year!

This is one of my favorite UF series, Stormi, and I’m so happy you love it as well 🙂 It’s really well done, don’t you think?
I prefer the stories where Curran is around a lot, too 😉 I have no idea why.
Have a fantastic Friday and happy reading.

I binge read this series this year and really enjoyed it. I don’t specifically remember this book, but overall I enjoyed them all. And totally agree with you – I prefer when Curan is around 🙂
