Atlanta is a city plagued by magical problems. Kate Daniels will fight to solve them—no matter the cost.
Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shapeshifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta.
Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shapeshifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute—and they’ll pay him in medicine. With the young people’s survival and the Pack’s future at stake, Kate and Curran know they must accept the offer—but they have little doubt that they’re heading straight into a trap…
Barb and I back with the Kate Daniels series after taking July off, so check out what we thought about it. Only four more books to go before we finish the series! Check out Barbs review cause I think she liked this more than me. 😉
Here is what I thought
I don’t think Kate can ever catch a break as long as her father and others seem to want to kill her. In this one they are needing Panacea a mixture of herbs and magic that can help young shifter from going Loup when they are teenagers. The only shifters who know how to make it our in a different country and are not keen on letting anyone have any.
Curran has been contacted the European shapeshifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute—and they’ll pay him in medicine. The pack leader’s daughter is pregnant but from two different shifter packs. It seems which ever baby is born first will get the rights to a pass that Jakal doesn’t really want to give up. Curran can bring a small group with him and of course Kate will be in the middle of all of this. They are to make sure the woman is safe from the others till she has the babies. Curran and Kate know it’s a trap but they need the Panacea and so they go anyway.
In this one Curran pretty much ticked me off through most of it because of the way he was treating Kate. You find out he has reasons for it but it still made me mad and ruined my love for Curran through most of the book. He was letting some young shifter werewolf flaunt herself in front of him, sit beside him, etc. The other packs thought Kate was on the outs and this lady was taking her place and it was really getting to Kate. It seems that everyone has an agenda at this meeting.
Kate finds out that Hugh is the “king of the castle” so to speak and now she really knows things are not going to go well as he is her father’s right hand man. A fight does go down at the end and it was very sad!!!! I don’t like it when my books turn sad!!!
I loved Kate as usual and because I like her I had Curran in the dog house (or cat house) this time and didn’t enjoy him as much so I better have more good Curran in the next one! I really love most of the recurring shifters from the pack and I thought the guy Kate rescued was kind of funny, well maybe crazy but still I liked him! 🙂
I enjoyed this one though I don’t think it was a favorite but I am curious about how things are going to go with the next one.
