Goodreads

Max Cantrell has never been a big fan of the truth, so when the opportunity arises to sell forged permission slips and cover stories to his classmates, it sounds like a good way to make a little money and liven up a boring senior year. With the help of his friends Preston and Parvati, Max starts Liars, Inc. Suddenly everybody needs something and the cash starts pouring in. Who knew lying could be so lucrative?

When Preston wants his own cover story to go visit a girl he met online, Max doesn’t think twice about hooking him up. Until Preston never comes home. Then the evidence starts to pile up—terrifying clues that lead the cops to Preston’s body. Terrifying clues that point to Max as the murderer.

Can Max find the real killer before he goes to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? In a story that Kirkus Reviews called "Captivating to the very end," Paula Stokes starts with one single white lie and weaves a twisted tale that will have readers guessing until the explosive final chapters.

First Line

I Don’t make to-do list, but if I did, today’s would have gone something like this: 1 get drunk, 2. get laid, 3. go surfing (not necessarily in that order). Noticeably absent from that list: get arrested.

What I thought of this book

Liars, Inc started off a little slow but at the same time still interesting but then once things get going it takes you on a wild ride. Three friends decide to come up with Liars, Inc as a way to make money. They write out permission slips, make cover stories, what ever a client might need at the time.

Preston decided he needs a cover story for himself and has Max go camping with him as his cover. Preston goes off to Vegas to visit a girl but never comes home. Now Max is in the hot seat because he was the last person to see him and Preston is a senators son. This is when things start to get interesting as Max is on the run from the FBI and his girlfriend Parvati does her best to help him figure out what happened.

There was times when I thought I had it figured out and then it would go in a different direction. Though towards the end I sort of thought I had it I really did not see it all coming. It was crazy! Max is along for this wild ride all because of something that happened that he had no control over.

Max was a great  character. He was a street kid who was fostered with a great family who decided to adopt him. Even though they love him very much he just never warmed up to them like he should have. He gets a lot of time to reflect on this as all this bad stuff starts happening to him. Because he use to be homeless I believe it helped him survive better on the street running than others would have.

This was my first novel by this author but it won’t be the last  if she has others like this one because really enjoyed the wild ride that I had on this one. If you like YA and thrillers then you might just enjoy this one.

Love that first sentence. This book isn’t anything like what I expected – teaches me to base too much off the cover LOL! I think I need to read it, I’m very curious now about what happens since you couldn’t guess!

Yeah, I have that problem with judging covers too…lol. I wouldn’t have thought it would have been a thriller by the cover either. 🙂

Oh this sounds like an interesting book and I like it when you are guessing, but the ending still manages to take you by surprise! I haven’t read a lot of thrillers, but I like the sound of the murder mystery aspect of this book, so I might check it out. Great review!

I was really surprised at how much I really liked this one, the blurb was a bit iffy with me and then it went in a direction I wasn’t expecting which made me like it. 🙂

This book sounds awesome! What a great idea, a business that gives you an alibi. Thanks for the spoiler free review, I am adding to my wishlist right now!
