Ghost hunters from a reality television show are called to investigate an abandoned opera house in small town Hillsboro, Ohio. They discover that the town is experiencing a growing number of gruesome murders. The investigators become tangled in the midst of the carnage, only to realize that they are the last thing standing between the town's people and Hell. Will they stop the ultimate demon from destroying the town, or will they make a fatal mistake and unleash Hell?

First Thoughts:

I first came across Emily Ford and her books when I decided to try out IndieARC a new place to get novels from the authors. I thought her book Hell Town would be perfect for my Monsters, Madmen, Mayhem. Oh my! so I grabbed it up and I was pleasantly surprised by this author I had never heard of.

What’s it about and why I liked it:

So it’s about this celebrity mayor who has a reality TV show called I, Mayor. He is an old British actor and he is hoping that this show he is doing will land him some movie roles and jump start his career again. He is a pompous ass! He is the guy in these scenario that you just wish would get killed or maimed really badly.

He is opening an old Opera house and he thinks it’s going to be the thing that gets him out of this little town and on to better things. He opens it up to tours and when a young mother and her children go and check it out that is when things go down hill. Let’s just say they accidentally unleash something evil.

There has been seven mysterious deaths and yet the mayor is basically covering it up as he doesn’t want anything to ruin his show. So instead of doing something about it he decides to invite Ghost Detectives to town because he thinks that if he has these paranormal investigators in town that everyone will forget about the murders.

Emily Ford did a great job with really creating a creep factor in her novel. I don’t scare real easy when reading novels (movies being another thing..lol) but I thought there was a few places were I thought it was creepy. For example she uses bugs, who doesn’t get creeped out by a bunch of large bugs!

The scenes where people die were pretty gruesome as well and I don’t want to give anything away about them. There was one death that I was a little sad about but you know that always happen in horror. Overall, I thought she did a real good job with this short novel.

Last thoughts:

Though I thought the ending went a little quickly and was resolved sort of fast I still very much enjoyed this scary read. Now if your a hard core horror fan it might not be scary enough for you, but if you jump at your own shadow you might think this one could give you nightmares. It really depends on your level of scare. It was creepy enough for me to enjoy Β and if you like horror then give it a try and see for yourself.

This sounds really good – but I know myself well enough to know that I’m on the side that would have nightmares LOL! The bugs alone gave me chills. The mayor sounds like a real ass though – so I hope he dies πŸ˜€
