Lullabies…and cowboys? USA TODAY bestselling author Leanne Banks kicks off the new Fortunes of Texas continuity with a story of a single mom and the sexy rancher who sweeps her off her feet!

As she rings in the new year in Horseback Hollow, Texas, single mom Stacey Fortune Jones tries to count her blessings. She has an adorable baby girl, Piper; supportive parents; good friends. Best of them all is Colton Foster, her longtime neighbor from the ranch next door. He always seems to be around when she needs him. Trouble is, she may be starting to need him a bit too much….

She's off-limits, Colton keeps telling himself. The tall, muscular rancher turns to mush every time he sees Stacey. But falling for his little sister's best friend seems wrong on so many levels. She's on the rebound. She's got a baby. She's…complicated. What's a big-hearted cowboy to do?

Happy New Year, Baby Fortune was a short and sweet contemporary romance and I really enjoyed it.

Stacey, is a single mother who has moved back in with her parents in Horseback Hollow so she can have some support in raising her child. Her ex-fiance just up and left her when he found out she was pregnant. Stacey is young but she acts a lot older than her years because of the responsibility of her baby, Piper.  She hates depending on her parents for help but she knows it’s the best thing for the two of them right now, but she is determined to get back on her own two feet.

Colton was sort of the boy next door growing up, even though there was a lot of ranch land in between. He was older than Stacey and he never seen Stacey for any but his sisters best friend. Now he is seeing her in a whole new light, but still doesn’t think he should be paying attention. When did she go from girl to woman and how did he ever miss it? He feels bad for her because he sort of blames himself for his friend Joe proposing to her and then running off. So he wants to be her friend and maybe try and cheer her up. Just being friends quickly turns into something more but she has a baby and he needs to take it slow.

Stacey never thought of Colton as anything other than a friend but getting to know him again has sparked something inside her. She is afraid that he won’t want to get saddled with a ready made family and he has no experience with kids and she can tell he is scared of her baby. They can’t help the attraction growing between them and in a small town it’s hard to start something without everyone wanting to put in their two cents.  It puts a strain on their budding relationship, but they have to quit listening to rumors and listen to their hearts.

Happy New Year, Baby  Fortune was a delightful quick romantic read and if you like romances you will probably enjoy this one.
