For the past two months, Kitty Doe's life has been a lie. Forced to impersonate the Prime Minister's niece, her frustration grows as her trust in her fake fiancรฉ cracks, her real boyfriend is forbidden and the Blackcoats keep her in the dark more than ever.

But in the midst of discovering that her role in the Hart family may not be as coincidental as she thought, she's accused of treason and is forced to face her greatest fear: Elsewhere. A prison where no one can escape.

As one shocking revelation leads to the next, Kitty learns the hard way that she can trust no one, not even the people she thought were on her side. With her back against the wall, Kitty wants to believe she'll do whatever it takes to support the rebellion she believes inโ€”but is she prepared to pay the ultimate price?

What I thought of this book

I remember not being a huge fan of Pawn, but I still wanted to give Captive a try as I am curious to see how the rebellion resolves itself.

Kitty aka Lila Hart is still helping out with the rebellion and a lot more is at stake now than before. It starts out at the Hart estate but soon things happen and it all moves to Elsewhere. I was always so curious about Elsewhere and so I was happy to see the story move there as you get to see it’s more than just a place where they go hunting.

It’s also the place where the rebellion will go full on as Elsewhere has ย the arsenal that the blackcoats need. Kitty before finding out about the hunting thought like a lot of people that Elsewhere was a nice place to go when you got old. She found out real quick that it was nothing like that but I didn’t realize the complexity of the place until we got to spend a little time there. It’s a horrible, horrible place where they have no problem just putting a bullet in your head for something as simple as a candy bar. You can’t trust anyone because they could be a snitch.

It’s really hard to talk about Captive without giving something away but I really loved how there wasn’t that much romance. It’s a rebellion there is no time for romance! I am not even sure if you can call what they have going on in these books a love triangle as Kitty has pretty much chosen her man.

As for the characters, I so can not stand Kitty. She drives me crazy! It’s a freaking rebellion, there is no whining in a rebellion! There is no I can do this better than you let me show you how I can, now I am in trouble and your going to have to get me out of trouble cause I screwed myself. I don’t know how many times I wanted to slap her and if I was Knox I would have just let her die. If I was Scotia I would have beat the crap out of her. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I was hoping that she would have matured a bit more from Pawn but nope she is still the selfish little twit from the first book. ๐Ÿ™

“Knox doesn’t want me here. You should’ve heard the things he just said to me, Benjy. He can’t stand me. He’d rather have the real Lila here than me. He thinks I’m a liability and that I can’t be trusted, and maybe- maybe he’s right”

Benjy is sweet and for the life of me I don’t see what he sees in Kitty at all. Maybe it’s because he grew up with her that he sees the better side of her. She blatantly goes against everything that Knox tells her to do. Benjy gets in so much trouble because of her but in the end he still loves her.

Knox is a hard character to like or hate, I don’t trust him. I agree with Kitty about him as he has left to many things unexplained to be trustworthy. At the same time she has to trust him somewhat if she wants to live. I think he likes Kitty because if not he would have shot her a long time ago. ๐Ÿ™‚

A lot of things were brought in Captive that pieces some things together and I pretty much had some of it figured out. The ending is not a cliffhanger really, but it does leave you wanting to know what they have planned next. I will hang in there just to see what happens in Queen since I have come this far but I just wished Kitty wouldn’t have drove me so crazy.

It is interesting but I just hate Kitty’s attitude. I mean I can understand how she feels some times but at the same time, what choice does she really throwing a hiss about things isn’t going to make things better. That was annoying.

  1. “Itโ€™s a freaking rebellion, there is no whining in a rebellion!” <– That had me laughing out loud! I'm sorry Captive didn't really work for you, Stormi. It's hard to like a book when you can't stand the MC. But I'm glad there is enough to like that you'll stick with the series to see how it ends.

LOL, I am glad you liked sums up how I felt..if you don’t tell me whats going on..I am going to go and do this..well I will show you..I will just go and do it..oh no now I am in trouble..well if you would just tell me what I want to know I wouldn’t do this or that..blah blah..annoying! ๐Ÿ™‚ No whining is allowed in a rebellion! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I’m really enjoying this series and I loved how gritty Elsewhere was. I do agree Kitty is a moan though! And I don’t get the romance at all, I think they are more friends than anything. I’m pinning my hopes on Knox for sparks! ๐Ÿ™‚

I really enjoyed learning more about Elsewhere cause in the first book you do only get a sense of it and I thought it was just a place where they hunt humans but it was so much more. Yeah the little bit of romance at the end felt..weird..Knox is definitely better for the sparks! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I had Pawn on my wish list on audible since it came out. I was excited about it, but I didn’t hear too many good things about it, and it fell of my radar. I don’t mind the lack of romance, but Kitty is a whole another thing…LOL I might still give a go.
    Thanks Stormi ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I actually have book one, and aspects sound really good, but the predictably might make this fall short for me. I may hold off to see reactions to the final book before I commit. Great review Stormi

  5. I have seen this one around, but I don’t remember Pawn. This one has a really interesting cover, but I don’t think I am interested enough to read it. Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Hmm I know you have bad luck with this genre, but I’m thinking I’ll leave this on my maybe list for a while. I don’t know that I’d like the MC and that makes it so hard to love a book. Great review!

  7. I liked Pawn, but this series is not that great. Kitty is so annoying. And there’s not even a good romance, but I’ll continue to Queen just to see how it will all work out in the end.
