When demons threaten London, Lady Belinda answers the call.

Lord Gabriel Thurston returns home from war to find his fiancee is not the sweet young girl he left behind. She s grown into a mysterious woman who guards her dark secrets well. When he sees her sneaking away from a ball, he s convinced it s for a lover s rendezvous. Following her to London s slums, Gabriel watches in horror as his fiancee ruthlessly slay a man.

Lady Belinda Carlisle's only concern was her dress for the next ball until demons nearly killed her and changed everything. A lady by day, and a demon hunter by night, she knows where her duty lies. Ending her betrothal is the best way to protect Gabriel from death by a demon s hand.

Gabriel soon realizes, like him, Belinda has been fighting for her country. He joins in the fight, determined to show her that their love can endure, stronger than ever.

First thoughts:

This was my first book by A.S. Finichel and I definitely will be following this series. It was hot and steamy and had one kick ass heroine!

A little on what it’s about:

A lot has happened to Lady Belinda since her fiance went off to war and now that he is back she is not sure they will have a future together. Belinda has seen too many things, things she want to shield Gabriel from, so that he doesn’t get hurt.

Gabriel knows something is up with his fiancee and he is determined to find out what it is, so he follows her. He believes it to be another man, but what he sees her do is worse than he imagined. He just witnesses his Belinda kill a man and leave him for others to clean up. Or at least at the time he thought it was a man.

Gabriel soon learns that his fiancee is now a fierce demon hunter, a warrior. This might turn off some men of nobility but he rather likes it. He won’t let her fight alone any more though and so he joins the company  and fights beside his wife.

The demons are trying to summons their master and they want Belinda. Gabriel is determined that they will not succeed.

Ascension is a steamy blend of romance and paranormal demon killing action.

The awesome characters:

I love the main characters Belinda is the kick ass heroine who isn’t afraid of dying for the cause. She felt fear that first time she was captured and she refused to feel that way again. She trained and becomes one of the best demon hunters in London. She is one of the best heroines I have read in a while and I loved her.

Gabriel is hot, sexy and just plain awesome. How many Earls would let their fiancee’s keep fighting demons after he finds out what she is doing? Probably not many, and not many would fight along side her or think she is sexy in trousers. Gabriel is just so easy to fall for, but there was one thing that did drive me a bit crazy and that was how insecure he seemed when it come to Belinda. She said she loved him, that there was no one else. He knows for a fact there had been no one else but he keep questioning things. I guess when you find out your woman is a demon hunter it messes with your ego a bit.

I must give a shout out to the secondary characters in this book because without them this book wouldn’t have been as great. Lillian and Reece are also demon hunters stationed in London and they are the ones that rescued Belinda when she was first captured by demons.  Thor, is the carriage drive that Gabriel hires pretty much on the spot to be their driver when they go hunting and he is pretty good at rescuing the lady, he is a good person to have around. There are few others but not as important as these three are though they played good roles.

Last thoughts:
This was a very good read and I can’t wait to find out what happens next! If you a fan of paranormal romances then I do believe you must read this book.
