Trapped for decades, a powerful god seeks freedom . . . and revenge. But the only thing that can save him is the passion of a woman's touch . . .

Emma Keane is your average city girl trying to get a date. There's just one thing holding her back: the disembodied male voice speaking to her through her mind. Sound kind of crazy? Maybe. But crazy turns downright deadly when the voice persuades her to travel to the wilds of the Mayan jungle. There she will free his body-his incredibly hot, muscled, naked body.

Humans are so frail, so undisciplined, so susceptible to love. And when this ancient being connects with Emma, the feelings she sparks drive him utterly mad. Protective, keep-her-close, never-let-her-go kind of mad. Which might not be such a bad thing because from the moment the beautiful, passionate Emma unshackles his body, they are hunted at every turn. Now he'll have to do everything in his power to keep her safe. But will it be enough?

Revieweed by Stormi

This is the first book in a new series by author. It’s also the first book I have read of this author. The premise sounded really good but somewhere along the way it just went flat.

Emma has heard a man’s voice in her head since she was little. He has kept her from ever dating or doing anything fun. She always felt a little bit like a freak. Now that she is older and wanting a relationship she really wants to get the sexy sounding voice out of her head. When Guy finally talks her into coming and setting him free she finds out he is a God. He is the God of Death and War and has been trapped cursed by these evil priest.

The book was going really well up until she frees him from the cenote that he is trapped in. After that it goes really dull with the banter back and forth between the two. He won’t tell her who he really is or what is going on because he is trying to protect her. She whines because she says she hates him and wants nothing to do with him. Meanwhile she is in real danger of getting killed by these evil priest who want to kill her because she is is half human and half God. For pretty much the whole middle section of the book is Guy and Emma arguing with each other or her having a pity party.

I understand that Emma is really confused and tired of not knowing everything but she acts like a whiny little teenager instead of an adult. I just think the author could have cut some of that out of the story line. I also understand that Guy has his reason for not wanting to tell her everything and he is a arrogant God. He also think he has a good reason for not wanting to get close to her even though there is a serious attraction going on. They both feel this pull to be together but Gods are not suppose to be able to be with humans. It’s one of the things that Guy is trying to figure out since one of his brothers was able to have a child with a human.

The middle was a bit slow but the last twenty percent or so picked back up as they hunted the bad guys, etc. I can’t say that I hated the book because it really did make me chuckle in parts and the first part and the last part was interesting. I just wasn’t impressed with the middle. I am probably going to pick up the next book to see if it gets any better because I believe you have to give an author more than one try before you say you don’t like their style. The next one is also about Vampires which is more to my liking so I really hope the book is too!

Thanks for stopping by! It really started out good and the ending was good I just think it had to much filler in the middle. I am curious enough to check out the next one..maybe I am just a glutton for punishment…lol. Have a great Friday as well and happy reading!

  1. I started reading this book awhile ago and stopped. I agree with you. It started out good, but I got bored about halfway through. I wasn’t that invested in the characters to keep reading.

  2. I’ve been wondering how you liked it. I felt exactly the same way! The whining made me want to quit reading it. I do plan to read the second book sooner or later though. Grats on the COYER review. 🙂

  3. Great review. I hate whiny immature females especially when it’s over a guy and they are supposed to be adults! The book does sound interesting though unfortunate it didn’t follow through completely… 🙂
