So not sure if this type of thing will interest anyone but since I have started exploring the Keto diet and trying to change my way of eating I have been looking into a lot of youtube videos, or websites that have recipes to try. Though I do want to eat a healthier type of Keto right now I am doing what I can with a limited budget so some things may be what they call Dirty Keto (just means I use a lot of cheese and bacon…lol) The thing you have to watch with a meal like this I am learning is Tomato Sauce and Paste have carbs! So the worst thing about Keto is I have to read labels! 🙁 Sighs…lol.
Anyway thought I would just give y’all the rundown on some of the things I have tried. If this interest you let me know and I will do more. 🙂
So the other day I decided to try a recipe I seen someone make on YouTube. I think it was Katherine Michelle. I also used Keto Size Me‘s version to follow along with as it was kind of like the one on Youtube.
So one thing I am learning by eating a bit cleaner and making my own things is that sauces I make and things from a can don’t taste the same…lol. I am use to chili in a can which doesn’t taste anything like this…this taste more like tomato sauce with spices in it. 🙂 I am sure as time goes by I will enjoy these flavors and hate the can stuff!
Here is what I used:
1 1/2 lb of Ground beef
8 Turkey hot dogs
1/2 small Yellow onion
1 cup of Tomato sauce (watch for carbs!)
2 tbsp of Tomato paste (watch for carbs!)
2 tbsp of Worcestershire Sauce
2 tsp of Chili Powder
1/2 tsp Cumin
Salt and Pepper to taste
4 tsp Stevia (optional and I didn’t use it as I didn’t have any)
Preheat oven to 400
Brown ground beef over med high heat and add 1 tsp of salt to meat while cooking.
Mix all spices in a small bowl along with tomato sauce and paste
Once ground beef is done drain and set aside add hot dogs to the pan and lightly brown
Remove hot dogs from heat and cut when cooled
In a large bowl (or baking dish) mix ground beef, hot dogs, onion and tomato mixture and mix until well combined.
Pour all ingredients into a 9X13 baking dish and top with cheese.
Bake for 20 minutes.
So with a little dollop of sour cream I didn’t think it tasted to bad it was just different because of making my own chili meat sauce. Had a serving of this with some broccoli.
I think I would give it about 3.5 stars though I think it could grow on me with time. 🙂
