A fast-paced and captivating debut—the first in the dark and sexy Imnada Brotherhood series about shape shifters in Regency-era England.
A rising star on the Covent Garden stage, Bianca Parrino believes she has everything she wants. Independence. Wealth. And a life finally free of her violent, abusive husband. But when her close friend, Adam, is murdered, and Bianca is suspected in his death, she is unwittingly drawn into the search for his killer, and soon must question everything she believes—about her friend, about herself, and about a world she never knew existed.
A member of the mysterious race of shape-shifting Imnada and part of an elite military unit, Captain Mac Flannery gathered intelligence during the Napoleonic wars. As a result of a savage massacre, Mac and the men he served with are cursed. Now one of them has been found murdered, and Mac suspects the existence of the Imnada has been discovered at last. His only link to unearthing the truth is the beautiful actress who turns up unexpectedly at Adam’s funeral.
Before long, Mac has more to contend with than Bianca’s overt mistrust, his ill-fated attraction to the haughty and beautiful actress, and his ongoing search for an end to the curse. Because Adam’s killer is back, and Mac is next on his list.
So I was really looking forward to this one as it sounded really good, but the first hundred or so pages were just really slow for me. I think how I feel about this was more of me not being in the mood than the story-line of the book. So I would be interested in anyone else’s thoughts on this book if they have read it.
What I thought of this book.
Captain Mac Flannery is part of a shape shifting race called Imnada and suffers under a horrible curse do to something that happen during the war. Normally the Imnada can change shapes as will but Mac and his friends have been cursed so that at sun down they are forced to shift. This puts a bit of a damper on ever having a relationship with anyone.
Mac sees Bianca at Adam’s funeral and over hears her saying something about keeping his secret, so he thinks she knows what Adam really was and pursues her. Come to find out it was something totally different and kind of funny. Bianca is as suspect in Adam’s murder because she was one of the last to see him alive. She tells Mac something though that makes him believe that Adam was on to a cure for their curse because she says that she had seen Adam an NIGHT, and that doesn’t happen with them.
Bianca wants nothing to do with Mac but soon they have to work together to find out who trying to kill off Mac and his friends and try and break this curse of his. Neither want to feel an attraction to each other but it’s there.
The bad guys are called Fey-Blood and they want to kill ever last one of the Imnada especially this one who wants revenge on what they did to her family.
Since it’s the first book it has a lot of build up to get to the more interesting parts of the story. This sounds bad but it wasn’t until Mac get’s the crap beat out of him that it started getting more interesting to me.
Bianca was a pretty spirited woman and I like that in a female character. I knew I was going to like her the first time I really meet her in the story and she has bloodied a Lord’s nose because he tried to make advances on her. Mac has a real hard edge to him and it takes you a while to warm up to him. He can be a bit of a jerk, though I understand why but still it just makes you not like him much.
I think if I wasn’t in a reading mood I would have enjoyed this one much more because once it picked up I did enjoy it. So if you like paranormal romance and think this one sounds good then give it a try. If you have read it let me know what you thought!
