Olivia Lockhart Cedar Cove, Washington
Dear Reader,
You don't know me yet, but in a few hours that's going to change. You see, I'm inviting you to my home and my town of Cedar Cove because I want you to meet my family, friends and neighbors. Come and hear their stories—maybe even their secrets!
I have to admit that my own secrets are pretty open. My marriage failed some years ago, and I have a rather…difficult relationship with my daughter, Justine. Then there's my mother, Charlotte, who has plenty of opinions and is always willing to share them.
Here's an example. I'm a family court judge and she likes to drop in on my courtroom. Recently I was hearing a divorce petition. In my mother's view, young Cecilia and Ian Randall hadn't tried hard enough to make their marriage work—and I actually agreed. So I rendered my judgment: Divorce Denied.
Well, you wouldn't believe the reaction! Thanks to an article by Jack Griffin, the editor of our local paper (and a man I wouldn't mind seeing more of), everyone's talking.
Cedar Cove—people love it and sometimes they leave it, but they never forget it!
See you soon….Olivia

I started reading the Cedar Cove series a few years back but never finished it. I started watching the series again on Hallmark Now and I started wanting to read the books again. So I decided to start over from the beginning as I only got about three books in and it has been a while. So thought I would do a couple mini reviews as I don’t know if I ever reviewed them when I read them. 🙂

The books follow a small Washington town called Cedar Cove and all the things that are happening within the town. There are several characters and POV’s in the book usually broken up with a page break so you know it’s changing which I really appreciate. Within these characters there are some that get more time than others and would be considered the main ones.

Olivia is one of the towns judges and she gives an interesting ruling when Ian and Cecilia try and get a divorce. She understands the heartache of having your child die and the strain it puts on a marriage since she is divorced. She doesn’t want them to make the same kind of mistake so she won’t grant them a divorce. Ian and Cecilia have a troublesome time ahead of them and it was interesting reading about their journey to see if Olivia is right or not. Jack the newspaper editor takes an interest in Judge Lockhart and it’s more than just her interesting ruling.  Grace is having troubles with her marriage of 35 years when her husband just up and leaves and tells no one.

There are more things going on but you get the picture that these books are about the whole community and I like some storylines more than others…lol. Though there are all these different POV’s and things going on it never really seems like to much and you gradually get to know everyone. Each book does focus more on certain people like in book one it was Ian and Cecilia and if they can make their marriage work.

I think Cedar cove sounds like a very cool place to live!

Grace Sherman204 Rosewood LaneCedar Cove, Washington
Dear Listener,If you've been to Cedar Cove before we've probably met. You can usually find me either at home or at the public library, where I work. I've lived in this town all my life and raised two daughters here. But my husband and I - well, about six months ago, he disappeared. Just…disappeared. Where's Dan? Why did he go? Who's he with? Will I ever find out?
My hometown, my family and friends, bring me comfort during this difficult time. Comfort and a sense of shelter. I'm continually reminded that life can and does go on. For instance, everyone's been discussing weddings and babies lately. Justine - the only daughter of my best friend, Olivia Lockhart - impulsively got married a little while ago. My own daughter Kelly recently had a baby. Unfortunately, she refuses to accept that Dan might not return to see his first grandchild. My older daughter, Maryellen, is more realistic. I think she's seeing a new man, but for some reason she won't tell me who it is.
Then there's Jack, who's been pursuing a romance with Olivia, and his son, Eric, and Eric's girlfriend, Shelly (I think she's pregnant), and Zach and Rosemary Cox, whose marriage is reputedly on the skids and…Well, just come on over and we'll talk!

In 204 Rosewood Lane we get to learn more about what is happening with Grace and how she is finally getting a divorce since she hasn’t heard from Dan. Cliff Harding is a patient man who wants to take her out but she is having a hard time with her divorce though she does go out a couple of times with him. Things are on not going so well with Olivia and Jack as they always seem to have something get in the way of their relationship, this time it’s Eric, Jack’s son who comes to live with him and is heartbroken over how things are going with his girlfriend. Also one of the main troubled relationships is Zack and Rosemary Cox who are heading for a divorce and Judge Lockhart hands down another unorthodox ruling. There are other relationships happening too but to many to just rattle on about so I pick out certain ones.

Honestly so far my favorite characters to read about out Olivia and Jack, Grace and Cliff, and Charlotte who is Olivia’s mother. As you get to know each character it’s like you have come home to Cedar Cove and can’t wait to see what is going on in the fair little town and trust me lots of things happen…lol.

With so many things  that go on it’s hard to write to much about things as I don’t like to give things away and it’s really easy to as things that happen in book one reflect on things that happen in book two and will continue as these books are like a continuing story broken up which is why it’s best if they are read in order.

Next up I will be heading to 311 Pelican Court for more about those who live in Cedar Cove! 🙂
