Friday Meme’s ~ The Maltese Falcon

Posted September 10, 2021 by Stormi in Misc. / 4 Comments

Since there are a few Friday Meme’s that I want to participate in I have decided to post them all in one post.

Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Take the first sentence of your current read and post it.

Sam Spade is hired by the fragrant Miss Wonderley to track down her sister, who has eloped with a louse called Floyd Thursby. But Miss Wonderley is in fact the beautiful and treacherous Brigid O’Shaughnessy, and when Spade’s partner Miles Archer is shot while on Thursby’s trail, Spade finds himself both hunter and hunted: can he track down the jewel-encrusted bird, a treasure worth killing for, before the Fat Man finds him?

I am going to be reading this next week for Subgenre September a week long readathon for Mid-year March Mystery madness (it’s mid year because it’s it’s midway between March 2021 and March 2022) Never read a hard-boiled noir novel so that is my subgenre to try.

Samuel Spade’s jaw was long and bony, his chin a jutting v under the more flexible v of his mouth. His nostrils curved back to make another, smaller, v.

Samuel Spade is one made of V’s…lol. 🙂

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda @ Freda’s Voice. It’s like Tuesday  Teaser but  you have a specific place in your read that you have to turn in your read (page 56 or 56%) to get your teaser.

“Well, what did he say?” she asked with half-playful petulance. “He offered me five thousand dollars for the black bird.”

Not a clue what is going on here.

This is taken from page 56 of the hardback copy I got from the library.

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  Each week we are asked a question to answer so it reminds me a bit of FF and so I thought it made a good fit to my other Friday Memes.

Are you more likely to choose to read a book based on the synopsis, or the cover?

Both…lol. I am a cover judge so I probably wouldn’t pick a book up if the cover didn’t catch my attention but then I read what it’s about even if not the whole synopsis to see if it sounds like something I would enjoy.

  1. A cover will get me to read the synopsis but if I don’t like it a good cover won’t make me read it. I loved the movie of The Maltese Falcon but I wasn’t as big of a fan of the book. Maybe I didn’t like the narrator? I’ll be curious to see your thoughts on it.
