Friday Meme’s ~The Chalk Man
Since there are a few Friday Meme’s that I want to participate in I have decided to post them all in one post.
Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Take the first sentence of your current read and post it.
In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code: little chalk stick figures they leave for one another as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing is ever the same.
In 2016, Eddie is fully grown and thinks he’s put his past behind him, but then he gets a letter in the mail containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out that his friends got the same message, they think it could be a prank–until one of them turns up dead. That’s when Eddie realizes that saving himself means finally figuring out what really happened all those years ago.
This was a most anticipated read that is turning into a disappointment and I am really wondering if I am reading the same book everyone is enjoying and raving about. 🙁 It has me about bored to tears. Best part so far was the prologue.
The girl’s head rested on a small pile of orange-and-brown leaves.
Start at the Beginning. The problem was, none of us ever agreed on the exact beginning. Was it when Fat Gav got the bucket of chalks for his birthday? Was it when we started drawing the chalk figures or when they started to appear on their own? Was it a terrible accident? Or when they found the first body?
All sounds pretty cool then for me it just went downhill. 🙁
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda @ Freda’s Voice. It’s like Tuesday Teaser but you have a specific place in your read that you have to turn in your read (page 56 or 56%) to get your teaser.
“Nothing,” I said. “It’s just, we drew chalk men, didn’t we? I hope they police don’t think it was us.”
This is from the 1986 section as it goes back and forth between that to 2016, so this was from them being kids. I so hope the last half of this book is better than the first. Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week we are asked a question to answer so it reminds me a bit of FF and so I thought it made a good fit to my other Friday Memes.
What upcoming titles are looking forward to reading in 2018?
There is a lot but here is a few.
