Friday Meme’s: Sherlock Holmes

January 30, 2015 Memes 15

Since there are a few Friday Meme’s that I want to participate in I have decided to post them all in one post.

featurefollowFeature and Follow Friday is hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee.

Hard print (real thing) or Kindle/Nook, which is your favorite?

I will always love a good print book, the smell, the feel..I love them. I also like the ease of the ereader as I can fit a lot of books into one little device. It’s easy to travel with and doesn’t take up as much space as my beloved print books. So I don’t think I really have a favorite. I love them both because they are books. 🙂

book beginnings memeBook Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Take the first sentence of your current read and post it.

Study in Scarlet

In the Year 1878 I took my degree of Doctor of Medicine of the University of London, and proceeded to Netley to go through the course of prescribed for surgeons in the army.

This is the first sentence from The Study of Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As much as I love watching shows about Sherlock Holmes I had never actually read one of the stories. I didn’t realize they were told in the POV of Watson and it has been interesting to learn how Holmes and Watson actually met. 🙂

Friday 56

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda @ Freda’s Voice. It’s like Tuesday  Teaser but  you have a specific place in your read that you have to turn in your read (page 56 or 56%) to get your teaser.

“Cocks and hens,” cried the little girl gleefully, pointing at their ill-omened forms, and clapping her hands to make them rise. “Say, did God make this country?” “In course He did,” said her companion, rather startled by this unexpected question.

Couldn’t find anything fun at 56% to use but this at least lets you know how different the language can be in a classic read..lol. I am only about 42% in so I had no clue who that little girl was or what it was about..lol.

If you participate in any of these memes please leave me a link so I can go and check out your blog!

It’s been years since I read a Sherlock Homes story but I don’t think I’ve read this one.

As for books, I like both my prints and my e-books. The e-reader is so convenient for traveling and for enlarging the font. But there’s just something about print copies, they feel more real somehow.

I just finished this book and for the most part I liked it but there was a section in there that confused and bored me..I will try another one though. 🙂

I hope you enjoy them, I didn’t realize there was so many stories till I finished this one and read the little author bio and it said there was like 60 stories with Sherlock Holmes…wow. 🙂

I’ve read The Hound of the Baskervilles but it was probably 20 years ago so needless to say I remember nothing! I’m planning on reading them again though – especially once I realized that all the episodes of Sherlock are based on individual stories! Thanks for sharing and for the reminder!

I have heard of that one, but not read it. 🙂 I hope you will try another one soon. 🙂
