Friday Meme’s ~ Body on the Bayou
Since there are a few Friday Meme’s that I want to participate in I have decided to post them all in one post.
Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Take the first sentence of your current read and post it.
The Crozats feared that past murders at Crozat Plantation B&B might spell the death of their beloved estate, but they’ve managed to survive the scandal. Now there’s a très bigger story in Pelican, Louisiana: the upcoming nuptials between Maggie Crozat’s nemesis, Police Chief Rufus Durand, and her co-worker, Vanessa Fleer.
Maggie, inexplicably tasked with being Vanessa’s Maid of Honor, quickly discovers why everyone else refused the assignment when the Bridezilla hands her a long list of duties — the most important of which is entertaining Vanessa’s cousin, Ginger Fleer-Starke, a mysterious woman with dangerous secrets. But just days before the wedding, Ginger’s lifeless body is found on the bayou behind Crozat Plantation and the Pelican PD, as well as the Crozats, have another murder mystery on their hands.
There’s a gumbo-potful of suspects, including an ex-Marine with PTSD, an annoying local newspaper reporter, and Vanessa’s own sparkplug of a mother. But when it looks like the investigation is zeroing in on Vanessa as the prime suspect, Maggie reluctantly adds keeping the bride-to-be out of jail to her list of Maid of Honor responsibilities in Body on the Bayou, the second in Ellen Byron’s charming and witty series.
I am almost done with this one and hope to finish it this weekend. It’s a lot of fun!
It was midafternoon and Maggie Crozat had already led five large tour groups through Louisiana’s Doucet Plantation, a historic state landmark once owned by her ancestors.
Not a huge opener but it gets interesting a little father down…lol
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda @ Freda’s Voice. It’s like Tuesday Teaser but you have a specific place in your read that you have to turn in your read (page 56 or 56%) to get your teaser.
Maggie smiled. “You won’t get any sympathy from me. All you had to do was book a car and a table at a strip club. You wouldn’t believe what Van’s put me through. And at the last minute, she decided to make the party co-ed, which pretty much doubles the guest list. Whoever heard of a co-ed bachelorette party? Isn’t that an oxymoron?”
“I believe so,” Bo said with a laugh.
Maggie has been roped into be the maid of honor to the worst bridzilla ever! Vanessa thinks Maggie should just do everything, so she keeps giving her list and list of things and it’s about to push Maggie to the edge…lol.
Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week we are asked a question to answer so it reminds me a bit of FF and so I thought it made a good fit to my other Friday Memes.
What’s your immediate feeling when entering a bookstore, as compared to how you feel when entering a department store?
Contentment, I don’t feel that when I go to a shopping mall or any other store. When I go to other stores I am on a mission to get it and get out but in a bookstore I can spend hours just browsing shelves. They are calming. 🙂
