Friday Meme’s ~ Better Than the Movies

Posted April 30, 2021 by Stormi in Misc. / 11 Comments

Since there are a few Friday Meme’s that I want to participate in I have decided to post them all in one post.

Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Take the first sentence of your current read and post it.

Perpetual daydreamer Liz Buxbaum gave her heart to Michael a long time ago. But her cool, aloof forever crush never really saw her before he moved away. Now that he’s back in town, Liz will do whatever it takes to get on his radar—and maybe snag him as a prom date—even befriend Wes Bennet.

The annoyingly attractive next-door neighbor might seem like a prime candidate for romantic comedy fantasies, but Wes has only been a pain in Liz’s butt since they were kids. Pranks involving frogs and decapitated lawn gnomes do not a potential boyfriend make. Yet, somehow, Wes and Michael are hitting it off, which means Wes is Liz’s in.

But as Liz and Wes scheme to get Liz noticed by Michael so she can have her magical prom moment, she’s shocked to discover that she likes being around Wes. And as they continue to grow closer, she must reexamine everything she thought she knew about love—and rethink her own ideas of what Happily Ever After should look like.

Just really getting started on this one so not sure yet. So far I am not a huge fan of the MC but she might grow on me…lol.

My mother taught me the golden rule of dating before I’d even hit the second grade.

This is from the Prologue of the ARC copy so subject to change in the finished copy.

This is why she is so caught up in rom-com movies, she watched them with her mom at an early age.

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda @ Freda’s Voice. It’s like Tuesday  Teaser but  you have a specific place in your read that you have to turn in your read (page 56 or 56%) to get your teaser.

“So where do you work?”

“What?”

He gestured to my dress. “Your uniform…?”

“Oh.” Oh no. He thought my adorable dress, the one that was supposed to make me stand out from the crowd to him, was a waitress uniform.

Kill me now.

From page 56 of the ARC so  could be different in the final copy.

This part made me chuckle because I really want to know what her dress looked like if he thought it was a uniform and she thought she was looking all cute and adorable…lol.

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  Each week we are asked a question to answer so it reminds me a bit of FF and so I thought it made a good fit to my other Friday Memes.

What are some common tropes you’ve seen in a genre you like to read? Are there any books you’ve read that reverse or change those tropes?

I read mostly mysteries and I can’t really think of a trope for that genre. I don’t really think that much about tropes to be honest. In horror maybe creature features if that is a trope…lol. I know in romances I like enemy to lovers and second chance romance, maybe fake fiancé, but that is about all I can think of.

  1. I’m curious about Better Than the Movies. Hopefully the MC will grow on you as you read. I wonder what the golden rule of dating is. LOL And that second excerpt–that’s funny. 🙂 Have a great weekend, Stormi!

  2. Hate when I’m not a fan of the MC but hopefully she’ll get better as the book goes on. It sounds like it does have a lot of potential.
