No Matter How Far You Run, The Past Will Find You

Leslie Tentler is back with another story of romance and suspense…this time in a small Southern beach town called Rarity Cove. What happens when a woman on the run has her dangerous secrets finally catch up with her? Find out in Before the Storm by Leslie Tentler…

Before the storm

Six years earlier, Trina Grissom disappeared, on the run for her life. Now living under an assumed identity—as Samantha Marsh—she still struggles with the dark secret she harbors and the fear she might one day be found. When she moves to the coastal town of Rarity Cove, South Carolina, to open a café, a handsome widower begins to chip away at the walls she’s built to protect herself.

Mark St. Clair lost his wife two years ago in a tragic accident. Head of the grand St. Clair resort, he distracts himself from his lingering grief by running the family business and caring for his troubled young daughter…until a beautiful restaurateur sets up shop in town. Before meeting Samantha, Mark was convinced he could never be drawn to another woman. But as his attraction to Samantha grows, the mystery surrounding her deepens.

As the two begin a hesitant courtship, double perils emerge. Someone from Samantha’s lurid past comes calling, threatening to expose her. And a powerful hurricane is forming in the Atlantic with the small beach town in its path. Trapped in the storm by the brutal man who wants vengeance on Samantha, she and Mark must fight for their lives.

My thoughts:

Trina ran away from a horrible life and now she is Samantha Marsh, owner of Cafe Bella a upscale seaside restaurant. She worked hard through culinary school to get where she is but the past is always on her mind.

She meets a great guy, Mark who has a young girl who won’t speak do to a horrible trauma ( the death of her mother), and things could be great. Samantha just can’t let herself be happy cause the past could always come back to haunt her. Though she can’t help the incredible attraction that she feels for Mark.

Then the worst happens and her past does come back to haunt her in the form on a lowlife who remembers her from her former days and has been trying to hunt her down. Things could get real bad real quick.

I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Samantha had a horrible life that had turned into something great, but she still had the burden of her past mistakes. I kept rooting for her to let Mark in and let him know what was going on cause I just knew he would help. Mark had also had his share of bad luck and loss. His wife died and then his daughter wouldn’t speak and even though it wasn’t his fault he couldn’t help but think he was partly to blame. To feel like a bad father, but he was so the opposite. He is such a sweet man and the kind that you can easily fall for.

Though my favorite character was Luther, he was a ex-con with a great deal of loyalty to Samantha because she was the only one who gave him a chance in Rarity Cove. Everyone else snubbed their noses at him and she gave him a job. He came in handy a few times as well. 🙂

Before the Storm had some great suspense from the bad guys to the bad storm. If you like romantic suspense novels then I think you will enjoy this one.
