Is it strange to have the unemployment office on speed dial? Not for twenty-four-year-old college dropout Rylie Keyes. However, her current job at a small retirement home is worlds more important than all her past gigs. Fact is, if she loses this one, she'll fail to stop the forced sale of her grandfather's home, a modest lakeside bungalow that has been in the family for ages. But to keep her job she needs to figure out the truth behind the death of a senior citizen found murdered in her care.

The victim was thought to be a penniless man with a silly grudge against Rylie. However, his enemies will do whatever it takes to keep their part in his murder secret.

Forced to dust off the PI training she must keep hidden from her ex-detective grandfather, Rylie has to juggle the attentions of two very sexy, very different cops who both arouse and fluster her at the same time. And as she trudges through the case, she has no idea that along the way she just might win, or lose, a little piece of her heart.

Please welcome to my blog Debut author Marianne Harden, she is the author of a contemporary romance mystery series, Malicious Mischief (Rylie Keyes #1)

Marianne Harden -- Author

Tell us something about yourself that is not in your author bio.

I’m Marianne Harden, mystery writer, California beach bum turned Washington State tree-hugger, world traveler, mother of two, stepmother to two more, happy wife, aspiring artist, Starbucks aficionado, thrift store scavenger, and gym rat.

What inspired you to write your first book?

Hordes of adoring readers, then I woke up.

Do you have a specific writing style?

Wisecracking. Some might say zany. Madcap, even. Husband just called out chaotic. (Pay him no mind. He’s balancing my checkbook.)

What type of research do you do before writing?

I check out Costco for wines on sale. Always good to stock up. Must have when writing a book.

Do you have a specific place you like to write/music you listen too, etc?

Since I don’t own a yacht anchored in the South Seas, I write in my home office in Washington State.

Do you have any authors that have influenced your writing?

Janet Evanovich, Lawrence Sanders, J.K. Rowling. Oh, and that writer with the crazy name I can never remember how to spell: Carl Hiaasen (Thank you, Google. Now if only you could pronounce it for me.)

When did you decide that you wanted to be a writer?

High School. Writing is one of the many insane ideas teen-me adopted.

How do you come by your ideas?

My agent says I write outside the box. What that means exactly and how I manage to climb out of this so-called box, I’ve no idea. I figure the aforementioned wine might come into play.

Are you published with a publishing house or self-published?

The Rylie Keyes Mystery Series is published by Entangled Publishing & distributed by Macmillan Publishing.

What do you think was the hardest part about writing your novel/s?

Tackling serious subjects in a funny manor manner. (I’m a horrible speller.)

Are you currently reading anything? Any new books out this year that have really sparked your interest?

A hilarious romance by Liza O’Connor: Ghost Lover

What made you decide to write in your current genre?

I started out writing romance but kept forgetting to add ‘the luv.’ Turns out, I’m better at killing off characters than getting them into sack.

Have you ever started writing something and then scrapped it?

I could wallpaper a sizable room with ditched pages.

Are you a full-time or part-time writer? How does that affect your writing?

Full-time. Overworked. Underpaid. It’s like working at WalMart, except with no happy face stickers.

Tell us about your current release/or new release?

Malicious Mischief, book #1 in the Rylie Keyes Mystery Series is available in paperback & e-readers everywhere, except outer space. No booksellers there—yet.

What made you decide to write about this particular subject?

Because tracking down real murderers would be scary.

Are you currently working on a new project? If so can you tells us what it will be about?

Delicious Mischief, book #2 in the Rylie Keyes Mystery Series, releases May 27th 2014.
