Sometimes the past can haunt you...

Eighteen years ago, FBI profiler Evelyn Baine's best friend, Cassie Byers, disappeared, the third in a series of unsolved abductions. Only a macabre nursery rhyme was left at the scene, a nursery rhyme that claimed Evelyn was also an intended victim. Now, after all these years of silence, another girl has gone missing in South Carolina, and the Nursery Rhyme Killer is taking credit. But is Cassie s abductor really back, or is there a copycat at work?

Sometimes the past is best forgotten...

Evelyn has waited eighteen years for a chance to investigate, but when she returns to Rose Bay, she finds a dark side to the seemingly idyllic town. As the place erupts in violence and the kidnapper strikes again, Evelyn knows this is her last chance. If she doesn t figure out what happened to Cassie eighteen years ago, it may be Evelyn s turn to vanish without a trace.

What I thought of this book.

Evelyn Baine’s best friend Cassie was taken by the Nursery Rhyme Killer when they were children. It’s one of the reasons that Evelyn became an FBI agent. Now someone is kidnapping kids again in her home town.

Evelyn goes back home to help with the investigation hoping to find out what happened to her friend all those years ago. Jack is not happy to see her as he remembers her from long ago and thinks she will be to emotional to handle things.

Evelyn starts to think he might be right when she lets her emotions get in the way and even trepasses on a supsects land. It lands her in some serious trouble with her boss back home and could ruin her career as a profiler.

Her boss sends her friend Greg to help out with the investigation and make sure that things goes smoothly. Kyle is her sort of boyfriend and he has business with HRT that is near by so he can check up on her and make sure she is holding up okay. Evelyn is not sure where their relationship is going but she was glad to have him around.

Evelyn is a tough profiler but she has had to deal with a lot of emotional things in her life. In the previous book Hunted she had a killer after her and now she is dealing with the person who could be her friends killer. I like Evelyn because she is tough but she is emotional as well.  Kyle really liked Evelyn but he is sort of playing things by ear as he is not sure how Evelyn feels about them being together. That and the fact there is not suppose to be in fraternizing between agencies. I am rooting for Kyle and Evelyn and I hope their relationship develops more with each novel.

There are a few different suspects to keep you guessing and as Evelyn gets closer to the truth her emotions run high. If you are a fan authors like Jane Casey then I think you will enjoy this novel and all it’s twist and turns. It definitely kept me guessing till the very end.

I can’t wait to see what happens to Evelyn and the others!

The Narrator:

Allyson Johnson has the kind of voice that takes a while to get use too. It’s a bit lower than most of the lady narrators and she has a bit a slow pace which at times is okay but I like the faster paced narrators.  She doesn’t really change her voice much when dealing with other characters. I didn’t dislike the audio but as I said it took some getting use too and if you put it on a higher speed I think it works better.

Allyson Johnson has been a professional voice-over actor for more than 17 years and has narrated well over 100 audiobooks. She is a multiple AudioFile Magazine Earphone Award winner and Audie nominee. She got her start in front of the camera at age 12 when she co-anchored “Bubble Gum Digest”, a weekly children’s TV news program in Chicago, for which she won an Emmy Award. From her home studio in Harlem, NYC, Allyson is currently narrating / producing the audio theatre version of Judith Bourassa Joy’s YA sci-fi title, “A Doorway Through Space” (Mayhaven Publishing)

I figured out how to upload my first sample to soundcloud (with some help from Felicia). 🙂

I’m super impressed I’m a one at a time kind of girl. Thanks for sharing I’ll have to add the first one to my TBR. Happy reading!
