The first book in a new series by M A Comley New York Times bestselling author of the Justice series.
DI Sally Parker has a serial killer on her patch. One thing that sets this killer apart from the others she's hunted before: his willingness to leave DNA at each of the crime scenes. It's up to Sally and her partner DS Jack Blackman to find out why before the body count rises to double figures.
While Sally is engrossed in the investigation, her ex-husband, Darryl, pays a surprise visit to her new home. His actions not only threaten Sally's new-found confidence, but they also force the DCI to give Sally an ultimatum concerning the case.
Can Sally overcome all the obstacles fate has placed in her path and arrest the brazen killer?

What I thought of this book.
DI Sally Parker and her partner have a string of murders on their hands and they believe it’s the work of a serial killer. The strange thing is is that the killer is leaving behind his DNA which seems like a pretty cocky thing to do, but the more they investigate they find who they thought was the killer but then another girl is killed. So now they have to figure out who is trying to frame the man they have in jail.
Not only does DI Parker have to deal with the stress of a serial killer but her ex-husband has turned back up and is threatening her freedom she feels when she got away from him. He is abusive and her partner and father want to get their hands on him but DI Parker doesn’t want to look weak in the eyes of those in the department.
So DI Parker has stress both at work and at home but she still managers to get the bad guy in the end.
This was my first book by this author and it was a decent listen. I really liked the twist on why the serial killer was doing what he was doing.
DI Sally Parker is a flawed character but I like that, she is a strong confident policewoman but at the same time she is a vulnerable woman when it came to facing her abusive ex-husband. Not sure I like her partner Jack, he seemed a bit of a jerk some times but maybe he will grow on me.
Overall, it was good mystery and I have the next book to listen to so I shall see how that goes.
The Narrator:
Charlotte Anne Dore does a decent job with this book, she has a bit of a slow voice but I always listen to my audios in a faster speed so it works. ๐

I’m glad you enjoyed your first meeting with DI Sally Parker, Stormi ๐ Sometimes, first books in series are a bit slow, but it seems like it was a good story. And not guessing who the serial killer was is definitely a good thing.

This does sound good though I’m not sure about Jack either. I do like a British crime novel and a serial killer is always good. I think I’ll go with the print version but this does sound good despite the flaws.

I like flawed characters. Makes them more genuine. And I like not being sure about one too. Makes the next book more enticing. I sense a new addiction here??? Audibles? LOL
