I am a living ghost, a wanderer in search of my purpose and place…
I'm a cemetery restorer by trade, but my calling has evolved from that of ghost seer to death walker to detective of lost souls. I solve the riddles of the dead so the dead will leave me alone.
I've come to Seven Gates Cemetery nursing a broken heart, but peace is hard to come by…for the ghosts here and for me. When the body of a young woman is discovered in a caged grave, I know that I've been summoned for a reason. Only I can unmask her killer. I want to trust the detective assigned to the case for he is a ghost seer like me. But how can I put my faith in anyone when supernatural forces are manipulating my every thought? When reality is ever-changing? And when the one person I thought I could trust above all others has turned into a diabolical stranger?

What I thought of this book

It’s been about a year after what happened in the previous book and Amelia needs to get away. Things just are not going well for her so she decides to put some distance between her and heartbreak.

She takes a job to restore Seven Gates Cemetery and finds herself right in the middle of a mystery only she can solve.  Even though she is missing John Devlin she is enjoying her time away and then she discovers some mortsafes and   a dead body and meets a detective that even though she seems to be a little attracted to at the same times there is something about him she feels not right.

A few characters from the previous book are back to help her figure out what is going on. Lots of strange things happening as Amelia tries to figure it all out. It has all the cool creepy stuff that makes books like this so much fun, immortality and soul possession. It seems the more Amelia wants to not get involved with the ghostly kind she is just dragged farther and farther into things.

This was another great installment in the Graveyard Queen series. It seems like each one of them gets a little bit more intense than the previous one. Amelia is a great character who is probably wishing she would have heeded her daddies words about ghost. Little disappointed in John Devlin but I think there is a lot about him we don’t know and so I hope we haven’t heard the last of him.

If you like paranormal reads with a bit of mystery thrown in and some crazy characters then you will enjoy this series. I see somewhere where people were talking about this being the last one but I hope not because it doesn’t feel wrapped up as there is just too much left unanswered especially with Devlin at least to me. 🙂

The Narrator:

Khristine Hvam does such a wonderful job with this book. When you have a great narrator it seems like the book is done before you know it and that is always how it is listening to her!
