Sarah Grayson and her trusty companion, Elvis, race to tail the right suspects in the fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling Second Chance Cat Mysteries.
Sarah Grayson owns Second Chance, a shop that sells lovingly refurbished items, in the charming town of North Harbor, Maine. But she couldn't run the store without the help of her right-hand man, Mac--or her dashing rescue cat, Elvis.
Mac's life before North Harbor has always been a little bit mysterious, but it becomes a lot more intriguing when a woman from his past shows up in town, and then turns up dead. Suspicion falls on Mac, but Sarah--and Elvis--know he can't be the killer, and they hope they can prove his innocence quick as a whisker.
Here is what I thought
I really enjoy this series even if it has a cat in it and not a dog. 😉
Sarah owns the second chance store, it’s a place where they take old stuff and refurbish it to sell. Her partner in flipping things is Mac but she doesn’t know anything about his life before he moved here. She gets a bit of a glimpse into that past when a woman shows up wanting to talk to him and then she ends up dead.
Of course, the police think that Mac was the one who done it because someone said they seen him and it’s a reliable witness. So of course Sarah and her older friends who have formed a bit of a private detective agency are going to figure things out. Nick of course doesn’t like her or his mom sticking their noses into police business and bumps heads with Sarah a lot during this one. Of course, as she checks things out there are more than one suspect so she has to do some snooping with the help of Charlotte’s Angels. 🙂
I really like Sarah but it really is the secondary characters that make this a fun series! I love those that make up Charlotte’s Angels a group of seniors who have made themselves private detectives. One even now has his license to be a PI! Sarah can’t see letting them do things on their own and feels that she needs to sort of oversee things. Nick’s mom is a part of things and he thinks Sarah is encouraging them which is why they are always at each other’s throats. I think they like each other so if they can get past the arguing they might make a good couple…lol.
I also thought it had a really good mystery as I had a hard time figuring it out. I was pretty sure I knew who it was but I wasn’t exactly sure why which happens to me a lot…lol. Can’t wait for a new one!!
Marguerite Gavin is one of my favorite narrators especially for mysteries.
