Every autumn, Moonbright, Maine, is the picture of charm with its piles of crisp leaves, flickering jack-o’-lanterns … and a touch of the sweetest kind of enchantment.   Witches, goblins, the occasional ghost—they’re all sure to be spotted at the annual Halloween parade, where adults and children alike dress in costume to celebrate Moonbright’s favorite holiday. And no place has more seasonal spirit than Bellaluna’s Bakeshop, a family business steeped in traditional recipes, welcoming warmth—and, legend has it, truly spellbinding, heart-melting treats …   Between good-natured Halloween tricks, frothy pumpkin lattes, and some very special baked goods, for three Moonbright residents looking for love—whether they know it or not—the spookiest thing will be how magical romance can suddenly be …

The Bakeshop of Pumpkin and Spice is a book with three short novels in it all centered about the Halloween season and I couldn’t pass it up. 🙂

Here is what I thought

Sweet Magic but Donna Kaufman

All the woman in th Bella Luna family where bakers who bake delicious treats that could have a hint of magic in them. Bree wants to be just like her family but her baking isn’t turning out. Not until a nerdy looking greek came walking into their shop and all of a sudden those cookies that were nasty tasted pretty good. Does that mean he is the one? Or did her magic put a spell on him because Caleb can’t seem to keep away from her, but she doesn’t want him to stay away either.

There is one problem though Caleb is only here to take care of his Uncles business why his Uncle is away, his life is in Philly and he plans to go back in a few months. So should Caleb and Bree run with their feelings or run from each other. Caleb has more on his plate though than his feelings for Bree because he didn’t realize his Uncle closed his restaurant, he just thought he had it shut down for a few days and now he has to deal with that and the fact that it seems like the place had been missing money, but why?

Like with most novella romances it’s a quick romance and so it always lands in the love at first sight trope which I am not a huge fan of but it wa still a cute story. I liked the characters, especially Caleb’s sister! She cracked me a a few times. Also Bree’s grandmother! I have not ever read this author but I would be open to trying one of her full length romances.

Love Spells Disaster by Allyson Charles

Cassie just wants her boss to notice her and after visiting Bella Luna and getting some ‘special’ cookies. She goes to work in an outfit that was suppose to make her boss notice her but he turns the cookies down (he is on KETO!) and doesn’t even give her a look. When she almost chokes on a treat a handsome man named Chip helps her out.

Chip is real glad he decided to take out life insurance after coming there and meeting Cassie. He eats one of the cookies while Cassie bickers with her coworker and friend. When she noticed he ate her cookie she gets mad because it wasn’t meant  for him, but she wasn’t really mad at him, more mad at the fact her boss doesn’t seem to want her like she wants him.

She ends up saying something rude about Chip to her friend not realizing he was in hearing distance and disappointed he leaves. Then when the handman turns up at her door it’s Chip and now she is feeling even worse but he agrees to still work for her.

Cassie has a plan and it doesn’t involve Chip, she wants Sam, but the more she hangs out with Chip as he helps her make her haunted house sparks fly.

I liked this one better than the first story as it wasn’t really so much love at first sight. Cassie was determined that she wanted Sam even if she felt herself gravitating towards Chip, so it took her a bit to decide and I liked it more.

Sweet On You by Kate Angell

Laura’s boyfriend breaks up with her in a very rude and public way in Bella Lunas and leaves her flabbergasted and while she was still in Bella Luna her landlord sees her and tells her that he has to raise her rent which she can’t afford as she only has a temp job right now, so her day is not off to a great start.

Before she could leave a crowd comes in and with them Jack, the mayor, whom she had went to school with and had admired from afar. There was no space left in the cafe so he ask if he could sit with her. Of course, Sophia the owner of the cafe seen her looking sad and sent Jack over with some of her special cookies!

When Laura can’t find a new job, Jack saves the day by offering her a job as the event coordinator for the town. From there a sweet budding romance happens rather quickly but still I liked it. It wasn’t like love at first sight it was sort of a I have known you since high school and had a crush on you all this time kind of thing. 🙂

————-

So three different short romances centered around fall and the yummy goodness from the treats and Bella Lunas and though I liked the last two more than the first one I did enjoy them all. I would recommend it  for anyone who enjoys contemporary romance with a fall/halloween setting with a little magic tossed in.

The Narrator

This was my first time with Tiffany Morgan as the narrator and I really enjoyed her. She did a decent job with male voices.

Great review! I have a problem with some female narrators doing male voices, and vice versa, I’m glad you mentioned that this narrator does a good job!
