In the space of a few months Vanessa buried her husband, Matt, and gave birth to their son—breaking her heart while filling it with a whole new kind of love. But the one man she longs to share this love with now acts as if she doesn't exist.
Paul Haggerty lives by the marine motto: Semper Fi. Ever faithful to his best friend, he's done right by Matt's widow as best he can…considering he's been secretly in love with her for years. Now, just as he's about to make his move, another woman has staked her claim on him—a claim that will be tough to escape.
With courage, humility and not a little meddling from the good folks of Virgin River, Vanni and Paul might just get a second chance to have the love they both desire and deserve.
Barb and I are back in Virgin River! We are really enjoying this fluffy romance series. After checking out my review head on over the Booker T’s Reviews to find out what Barb thought.
Here is what I thought
In book three we are introduced to Paul and Vanessa as side characters and I knew they would be getting a story. Vanessa was Paul’s best friends wife and in book three Matt was overseas as he is in the military. Vanessa was pregnant and moved back in with her father and Paul was there to make sure she had everything she needed because that is what Matt wanted. The thing is Paul has been in love with Vanessa since they both met her, but she ended up with Matt. Matt ends up dying overseas and Paul does his best friend duties to take care of Vanessa until she has her baby, but he just couldn’t stick around forever it was to hard.
Vanessa has confusing feeling because even when she was married to Matt, he has been gone from her a year before he was killed and now she has her baby to keep her going, but she really misses her friend Paul. She had really gotten close to him during her pregnancy and got use to him being around.
Paul now has a problem though, he had one night of sex with a woman he had been seeing off and on and she is pregnant. He told Terri he wouldn’t marry her but if the kid was his he would make sure that she and the baby was taken care of and this doesn’t sit very well with Terri. It also puts a wrench in things for Paul because he doesn’t want to marry a woman just because she is having his kid and the one woman he wants might not be happy he is having a kid with someone else.
Their story because they already knew each other and had feelings for each other even with the baby storyline only took about 45% of the book to get resolved. Then the rest of the book was full of Virgin River things. Jack and Mel’s second baby comes and there is a bit of excitement with that because of complications, then Preacher and Paige’s baby comes. There is also relationships between several others going on at the same time.
As always I really enjoy the characters in this series. I really liked Paul and Vanessa from the previous book they were in. I also love that even though they center around a main couple you always get to see how the lives of those you have gotten to know in previous stories. The only thing with this one is I felt that there was just a little to much happening. It’s almost like maybe the author thought this might be the last book and she shoved all the stuff in it. I do think my favorite side romance is between Vanessa’s dad who is a widower and a new lady who has moved to town who use to be an actress. They were kind of cute! So even though I enjoyed this one I would have to say it’s not my favorite in the series because just to many things happening!
I would recommend this series to anyone who loves sweet fluffy romances.
Thérèse Plummer did a great job as always!
