Between shopping for Halloween costumes, volunteering for the annual pumpkin festival, and coaching her girls to the state soccer finals, high school teacher Tj Jensen finds her good friend Zachary Collins dead in his favorite chair. When the handsome new deputy closes the case without so much as a “why” or “how,” Tj turns her attention from chili cook-offs and pumpkin carving to complex puzzles, prophetic riddles, and a decades’ old secret she seemed destined to unravel.

Here is what I thought

Heard a lot about this author but not had a chance to try her books out till now. I am really glad I did because this short cozy was a fun one.

TJ Jensen is still getting used to taking care of her two younger sisters after their mom had died and things are starting to go pretty good, then she went to visit a friend and finds him dead. When the new detective doesn’t seem to think there has been any foul play she decides to look into things herself.

Her friend loved puzzles and he gave her bits to figure out that leads her in the direction of the killer but she also learns a lot about the old man she never knew.

Even though it was a short mystery it still had all the great cozy mystery elements and I really enjoyed it. TJ is a character that I can’t wait to learn more about as the series progresses, she sounds like a strong lady to be taking care of her younger siblings. I liked Dylan the detective and there was a hint of a possible romance and he seemed really nice.

I also liked the storyline that you get with how TJ met Zachery, the old man and how they become friends, it was really sweet.

It was just very enjoyable.

Recommend if you like

Cozy mysteries and great characters.

Author Bio

Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn’t writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she’s not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.

Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.
