Her Charmed Pie Shoppe is open for business, but baker Ella Mae LeFaye is about to discover solving a murder is not as easy as pie…
Owning the Charmed Pie Shoppe and serving enchanted treats in the magical town of Havenwood, Georgia, seemed like a little slice of heaven for Ella Mae LeFaye. But now her hopes for both a lasting romance with Hugh Dylan and business success are starting to seem like pie in the sky, and Ella’s left wondering: Where has the magic gone?   When an enchanted grove is set ablaze, Ella realizes she has more grave problems. With her magic waning, she’s going to have to sleuth from scratch to stop an arsonist who has no respect for sacred ground—or human life…

What I thought of this book.

Another great one by Ellery Adams! I really like this cozy with its magical people and the Charmed Pie Shoppe.

Ella Mae is still trying to come to terms with what happened to her mother (see book two). Their magical community is still going but Ella Mae is determined to find a way to get her mother back.

Meanwhile, she has invited some other magical people to come and live in her mother’s house, but she is not sure if they can be fully trusted. Especially after one of them is killed and the body found in front of their grove.

Ella Mae needs to try and forge an alliance with her families enemies to get information on a rare flower that is in the bottom of the lake. It’s protected by a water creature but she needs it. Besides trying to figure things out in the magical realm, she has two murders to try and figure out.

She is also having problems with her relationship with Hugh because she hates lying to him but she can’t tell a non-magic person who she really is for fear of being punished. Though she finds out that Hugh is not really as ordinary as she thought. (I figured this out before she did, it just seemed obvious…lol)

Pecan Pies and Homicides was a face paced read that I pretty much listened to all in one day as I did some canning and cleaning around the house. I really wanted to find out how it was going to end and who the bad guy was.

I really like the magic that is weaved into the story and how Ella Mae’s magical powers come out through her pies. She can change people’s mood with just thinking of the right elements to bake into her pies. Warm you up with a red hot cinnamon apple pie, make you as gleeful as a child. It would be a lot of fun to peek in and watch the townsfolk.

I love Ella Mae she is a fun character with a unique gift that she is just learning how to use as she came into it a bit late. Her family is a lot of fun and I think my favorite character is Reba, she is a fiery woman who I wouldn’t want to mess with her or her family…lol.

I can’t wait to dive into Lemon Pies and Little White Lies and will probably be doing that soon. If you like cozies with a bit of magic then you will love this series!

And for dog loves that little guy on the fronts name is Charleston Chew aka Chewy and he is woven throughout the story. 🙂

The Narrator:

C.S.E Cooney is one of my favorite narrators. She does a lot of cozy mystery series that I listen too.

  1. She seems to like to weave dogs into her stories. Nice to see that you’re still enjoying the Adams books- I need to get cracking on the Books by the Bay I’m still on book three. I didn’t know there was so magic involved in these… interesting.
