The tourist town of South Cove, California, is a lovely place to spend the holidays. But this year, shop owner Jill Gardner discovers there’s no place like home for homicide. . .
As owner of Coffee, Books, and More, Jill Gardner looks forward to the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers. But when the mayor ropes her into being liasion for a new work program, 'tis the season to be wary. Local businesses are afraid the interns will be delinquents, punks, or worse. For Jill, nothing’s worse than Ted Hendricks--the jerk who runs the program. After a few run-ins, Jill’s ready to kill the guy. That, however, turns out to be unnecessary when she finds Ted in his car--dead as a doornail. Officer Greg assumes it’s a suicide. Jill thinks it’s murder. And if the holidays weren’t stressful enough, a spoiled blonde wants to sue the city for breaking her heel. Jill has to act fast to solve this mess--before the other shoe drops. . .

I really like this series!

What I thought of this book.

In If the Shoe Kills the holidays are coming up and there is a bit of a squabble about who will be doing the decorating and a new work program that Ted wants to introduce. It brings in people who have a bit a shady background and need the jobs. Trying to help them back into the workforce. Jill is all for it but not everyone is on board with the idea.

There is something strange about Ted and then he ends up dead and of course Jill finds him. Her boyfriend Greg doesn’t like her nosing around murders because he is the cop and he doesn’t want her to get hurt, but finding the body just stays with a person. Then she sees things that others don’t about how Maria is acting strange, etc.

Jill is also worried about hosting her first Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends.

I love cozy series because they are like coming back home to family and friends…with a wee bit of murder on the side. Jill is a great character. I love her Aunt. I like her boyfriend Greg and her best friend Amy. There are those characters you love to hate as well, the mayor and his wife for example.

Each book is full of characters who have motives and this time I didn’t figure out who had done it. I had my guess wrong! I kind of like it when I am wrong…lol.

If you love cozies you really should check out this series as it’s great! I am so glad I have the next two to listen too so I can just get right on them! 🙂

The Narrator:

Susan Boyce does an excellent job  with this series. Her male voices are not always great but she is still really easy to listen too. 🙂

I agree, if I didn’t know the author like I do I would think the same thing. Not sure why they did that with the audio cover. It’s a great series though! 🙂

  1. I love that cover but like Bea said above it makes me think this will be Cinderella retelling cozy style. Which doesn’t seem to be the case! Still I love that it kept you guessing and as I’m aiming to try some cozy series soon I’ll keep this one in mind. The audio sounds good!

  2. I really enjoyed this series and read the one after this but still have the newest one to read. So far I’ve really enjoyed it and I can imagine it would be excellent as audio. Like Bea and Trish said the audio cover is definitely an unusual choice. Definitely doesn’t scream cozy.

Yeah, it doesn’t scream cozy but it’s a great series..none of the other audio covers look like that so epic fail on the audio cover….lol.

  4. A wee bit of murder on the side huh? 🙂 I like an occasional cozy mystery but don’t get the chance to read many-although I just did read one last week. Glad you enjoyed this!
