Emerging from the bayou like an apparition, Donegal Plantation is known for its unsurpassed dining, captivating atmosphere, haunting legends and now a corpse swinging from the marble angel that marks its cemetery's most majestic vault. A corpse discovered in nearly the same situation as that of Marshall Donegal, the patriarch killed in a skirmish just before the Civil War.
Desperate for help traditional criminologists could never provide, plantation heiress Ashley Donegal turns to an elite team of paranormal investigators who blend hard forensics with rare & often inexplicable intuition. Among the Krewe of Hunters is an old flame, Jake Mallory, a gifted musician with talent stretching far beyond the realm of the physical, and a few dark ghosts of his own.
The evil the team unveils has the power to shake the plantation to its very core. Jake and Ashley are forced to risk everything to unravel secrets that will not stay buried even in death.
Today I have a paranormal mystery with a touch of romance for Monsters, Madmen, Mayhem. Oh my!
Heather Graham is hands down one of my favorite authors! I have read some of her other books and a few of the later in this series but I wanted to start from the beginning so here I am at book two. 🙂
What I thought of this book.
I love the Krewe of Hunters and I love ghost stories! Ashley Donegal lives on an old Civil War plantation and they have reenactments of the battle that was fought on her land. It’s a huge attraction and everyone loves playing their parts.
Later that night after the reenactment Ashley couldn’t find one of the players. Charles had not wanted to be a Yankee so one of the others traded places with him and let him be Marshall Donegal. Later that night Ashley thought she seen something outside so she went to check it out and fines Charles swinging in a tree killed just like Marshall Donegal had been.
With all the talk of ghost it brings in the elite paranormal investigation team called The Krewe of Hunters. Jake is the first one on the scene because he had a bad feeling about things. He happens to find Ashley right after she found the body. Jake and Ashley grew up together and were in love with each other till one day Jake said he seen her dead father. That would creep me out a bit too. 🙂
Now Ashley is seeing ghost, her ancestor Marshall Donegal is there to help her figure things out and make sure she doesn’t get hurt in the process. She keeps thinking she is just seeing an image in her mind but he won’t go away.
As always the evil on the plantation has nothing to do with ghost and there is a bad man who wants revenge on the Donegals for something that happened centuries ago. Down in the Bayou it’s not just the alligators you got to watch out for.
I really liked Jake and Ashley they make a cute couple. Jake sees ghost some times and it freaked Ashley out when they were younger. So even though he still has feelings he is a little afraid to just try and start off where they left off, but it doesn’t last for long. Ashley now understand Jake a little better since she is seeing a ghost now, so it’s easier for her to now know him a bit better.
If your a fan of paranormal mysteries with a bit of romance then I think you will like this series. Highly recommend it!
I have to say that everyone who has told me about Luke Daniels is right! Totally awesome narrator! Very nice to listen to and he does a great job with the voices. I think the only voice I didn’t care much for was Whitney, but hey one out a numerous about it’s that bad…lol. I am sure he will be going on my favorite narrators list. 🙂
