With his dying breath, Bobby Lowell begs Ellison Russell, “Tell her I love her.”
Unable to refuse, Ellison struggles to find the girl the murdered boy loved. Too bad an epically bad blind date, a vindictive graffiti artist, and multiple trips to the emergency room keep getting in the way.
Worse, a killer has Ellison in his sights, her newly-rebellious daughter is missing, and there’s yet another body in her hostas. Mother won’t be pleased.
Now Ellison must track down not one but two runaway teenagers, keep her promise to Bobby and elude the killer—all before her next charity gala committee meeting.
Here is what I thought
Guaranteed to Bleed is the second book in the Country Club mysteries set in the 1970’s and I think I liked it a bit more than the first one.
Ellison is trying to move on with her life after the death of her husband whom she found out she really didn’t know at all. She was at a sporting event when she found Bobby a teenage boy dying. His last words were “Tell her I love Her”, and Ellison is going to find out who that girl is and tell his last words even if it almost kills her.
Ellison can’t imagine how Cece must feel losing her son as she knows she would not be holding up to well if anything happened to Grace. Her and Grace haven’t been getting along real well after the death of Graces father and she is proving to be a typical teenager.
Ellison goes out with some friends and finds out a lot more about some of her neighbors than she wanted when that place turns out to be a place with a bunch of men dressed as women. Now she is having a hard time looking some of them in the face. She is good at keeping secrets because who cares what they are doing on their down time but she isn’t afraid to point out things when others get in her face.
Donna is a young girl who is kind of quite and friends with Grace, when her stepfather has a heart attach the mother asked Ellison if it was okay for her to stay with her, so what could she say. The thing is it seems that her stepfather is not a very nice man and there are some secrets there that need to come out in the open. Especially when she finds out why Grace and Donna runaway.
Guaranteed to Bleed was a very good mystery and man those 70’s country clubers have a lot of secrets a hiding in their closets…lol. When I started listening to this series I wasn’t sure if I would like the 1970’s setting, I was to young to remember it, but I am really liking it. I like Ellison as she is a no nonsense kind of woman. She has had to rise above the whispers from what happened in book one. Try and raise her teenage daughter alone and deal with an overbearing mother. The characters in this series are interesting to get to know. I think I like Detective Anarchy Jones more than Hunter and I am curious if either one will catch her affection as she is not really looking for a relationship.
If you like a good cozy and a retro setting of the 1970’s then you will enjoy this series. 🙂
This series in narrated by one of my favorite narrators, she just has the perfect voice for cozies set in the past. 🙂
