As curator and manager of the Marshfield Manor, Grace Wheaton is delighted to be part of the estate’s magnificent history, but no one told her solving murder was in her job description…
When Grace’s former professor calls to warn her that there have been a rash of thefts at various historical sites, Grace isn’t surprised—because Marshfield Manor has been targeted, too. She wonders if it has something to do with the film crew roaming the grounds, digitally immortalizing the manor, but then she gets distracted by an incident much more dire: the shooting of one guest and the murder of another.
Grace does her best not to go looking for trouble, but with a murderer on the loose, she can’t seem to leave the dirty work to the cops—especially since the killer still seems to be lurking around town, waiting to finish the job of making Grace history…
What I thought of this book.
It’s been a couple years since Grace to over supervising the Mansfield Manor and she has had a hard go of it. The only reason she got the chance was because the former supervisor was murdered.
There have been several murders since she has taken over and though she worries about how it will take away tourism. She shouldn’t worry about that as it seems to just draw more people in.
There has been a rash of theft in the Manor and they thought they might have a clue who it was but then one of the tours that John was leading turns tragic as one of the ladies is murdered. The lady was a bit of trouble but they couldn’t think of any reason for her to be killed and then they find out another had been shot in the arm.
Grace can’t believe it has happened again at the Manor and she has to run around trying to make sure things run smooth. Make sure the guy that was shot gets good care courtesy of the Manor and try and catch a killer.
I like Grace and I really felt sorry for her as it seems that life isn’t really going well for her, especially in the love category. She comes out of things stronger and it makes her feel more real. I love the old man Bennett who owns the place and he has really taken Grace in under his wings.
The secondary characters are great as well Francine is a hoot cause she is this stern older woman who seems to not like Grace but I think she secretly does. Scot and Bruce are fun as Grace’s roommates. Though I want to smack one of the detectives at times they always seem to come to the rescue.
I like this series more and more with each book and can’t wait to see what happens next. Recommended for all cozy lovers.
Emily Durante is another one of my favorite cozy narrators.
