Cat Latimer’s Colorado bed-and-breakfast plays host to writers from all over. But murder is distinctly unwelcome . . .
To kick off a winter writing retreat, Cat and her handyman boyfriend, Seth, escort the aspiring authors to a nearby ski resort, hoping some fresh cold air will wake up their creative muses. But instead of hitting the slopes, they hit the bar—and before long, a tipsy romance novelist named Christina is keeping herself warm with a local ski bum who might have neglected to tell her about his upcoming wedding.
Next thing Cat knows, her uncle, the town sheriff, informs her that the young man’s been found dead in a hot tub—and Christina shows up crying and covered in blood. Now, between a murder mystery, the theft of a rare Hemingway edition, and the arrival of a black-clad stranger in snowy Aspen Hills, Cat’s afraid everything’s going downhill . . .

Here is what I thought

Big fan of Lynn Cahoon so I had to listen to this one as soon as I got it in the mail. 🙂

Cat and her friend Shawna are having another writer’s retreat and they hope it will be better than the last one, meaning no dead bodies. Though none of their guests die one of her guest is wrapped up in a murder case as the guy she was dating turns up dead.

Not only does Cat thave to deal with a guest being questioned for murder, but she is also still trying to figure out what happened to her ex-husband Michael. She thinks he was messed up in something bad and she has been warned to leave things alone, but that just makes her curiosity amp up.

Cat is a great character, and I love that she is a writer. She started these retreats in hopes of having a decent income so that on her off time she could work on her writing, but things always go wrong. I am really curious to know what Michael was messed up in and how it has to do with some of the unusual residents of the town. (Don’t want to feel like I give something away by saying anything)

It has a pretty decent mystery with the death of the young man that Christina had been seeing and lots of potential suspects but I had it pegged pretty early on. I still enjoyed the mystery and finding out if I was right at the end. 🙂

Can’t wait till the next one comes out!

  1. Yay! I’m glad you were able to get this one audio! I really enjoyed it though I do think Cat is going to have to have non-fatal writers retreat or two otherwise it might hurt her business! I’m curious about those unusual residents as well. It seemed a little random but I’m hoping how it all connects is awesome!

At least this time the death didn’t happen at her retreat, but in the town. Just one of the writers was a suspect. 🙂 I was at a facebook event were Lynn Talked about this series and she hinted that a character from her other series is going to go to the retreat!!! Can’t wait to see who goes! I love crossovers!

I don’t figure it out all the time but I am pretty good at narrowing it down most of the time. 🙂 I love it when I have no clue though, it’s fun to be surprised.
