Running “errands” for her mob-boss employer, Joey “The Knife” Manetto, often ends with Shelby in trouble, making her cautious about continuing her association with him. Instead, she focuses on a new client who hires Shelby to find her missing mother. What seems like a routine case turns into something more sinister and deadly than she ever imagined. In the meantime, Uncle Joey has summoned Shelby to his office, where she runs into her former nemesis. Shelby inadvertently hears something that makes her fear for the lives of Uncle Joey and his hit-man, Ramos. This time, Uncle Joey is not sure he wants to involve Shelby in something he knows could get her killed. Keeping Shelby’s involvement to a minimum has disastrous results, sending Shelby on a dangerous path. As her investigation unfolds, Shelby finds death at every turn, and soon realizes she is in over her head. Can she escape from danger in time? Or will she find herself deep in death?

I am sure you all are probably tired of my Shelby Nichols kick that I have been on but it will be over soon. 🙁

What I thought of this book.

In Deep in Death Shelby gets involved in a the case of a missing woman. A young lady is getting married and she wants Shelby to try and find out what happened to her mother before she goes down the isle. Meanwhile, she goes about helping Dimples aka Detective Harris and Uncle Joey.

Shelby can’t seem to stay out of trouble and Chris thinks she must be a trouble magnet. While looking into what happened to the woman she gets herself in the line of site of a killer. If it wasn’t for her trusty mob boss bodyguard friend she would probably not make it out of most scraps she gets into.

Everyone by now knows how much I love Shelby and her husband Chris, and I think it’s great that we can have a series with a married couple that have stayed married as long as they have and it still be fun. As much as I love Ramos, I do think it gets a bit edgy with her and Ramos in this one and I hope the author doesn’t steer them into the wrong direction. I don’t mind a little flirtatious fun as long as it stays that way.

You all know I love Ramos and Uncle Joey but I am really starting to enjoy the new character Bobby Jo and I wish she would be in them a bit more. I like that Dimples has a girlfriend now, it’s cute.

Deep in Death steps up the thrill ride a little bit more as Shelby really gets herself in to a bit of  trouble towards the end. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen. Each book in this series is just as fun and exciting as the next and I can’t wait to start listening to Crossing Danger!

Colleen Helme has fast become one of my favorite authors this year!

The Narrator:

Wendy Tremont King has done another great job as Shelby and the gang!

Counts for item #19 of the COYER scavenger hunt. Read a book with the word death in the title.

I am afraid this is a series where you really need to start at the beginning. Something happens to the character in book one, that throws her into all the mayhem she gets into and you might feel a bit lost if you don’t start at the beginning. They are all awesome! 🙂
