Ellison Russell’s life resembles a rollercoaster ride. And rollercoasters make her ill. Her daughter Grace has a crush on a boy Ellison doesn’t trust and she’s taken to hosting wild parties when Ellison goes out for the evening. Worse, the bank which represents Grace’s inheritance from her father may be in trouble.
When a meeting with the chef at the country club leads to the discovery of a body, Ellison can’t afford cold feet. She must save the bank, find the killer, and convince Grace (and herself) that powerful women don’t need men to rescue them.

Here is what I thought

I so love this retro 70’s cozy mystery setting!

Ellison is hoping all will be well but she has foreboding, especially when she leaves her teenager alone to go out. The date is interrupted because Anarchy Jones has the station let him know when something is going down at Ellison’s house since bad things seem to happen. Grace had a party and things got a little out of hand, don’t they always. Though no dead body, just a sick one. Though it doesn’t take long for Ellison to find a body as it seems like she is a homing pigeon for the dead.

Things are just going bad for Ellison as she finds out from a banker that the bank her late husband had is in trouble and she was hoping it would be something for Grace when she got older. Then a meeting with the Chef at the country club leads to finding a dead body in the freezer. It’s Trip’s mother, the kid that Grace likes but Ellison doesn’t. Ellison hopes her husband didn’t do it because he is the man who owes her bank a substantial amount of money and she won’t get it in prison.

Ellison can’t keep out of things and the more she tries to figure things out there is another body, a person who was a friend of hers so it hits close to home. Now she is determined to find out what happened.

I really love Ellison and the gang and even her mother who drives me crazy. I don’t think I could put up with a mother like hers!

Anarchy wants her to stay out of things but she just can’t help herself and gets herself in a bit of trouble which doesn’t bode well with Anarchy. It could ruin their budding romance but I hope not!! She wants to prove to herself and her daughter than powerful women don’t need a man’s help, but I hope she is up to facing the consequences. 🙁 Her mother would prefer her with Hunter…ewww. I mean he is okay but Anarchy Jones is my pick! I really liked the mystery in this one and totally didn’t figure it out!

If you like cozy mysteries you need to try this series!

The Narrator

Callie Beaulieu is so totally Ellison that I couldn’t see anyone taking her place! She doesn’t really do much in the way of voices but she just has a great voice to listen too!

  1. I really enjoyed this one and need to get to the newest one! I like Hunter but Anarchy is my pick too. I do like that there are 2 fairly viable romantic choices. It drives me crazy when there’s a love triangle and one of the choices is just the worst but the heroine keeps him in the running.
