2019 End of Year Survey

January 4, 2020 Misc. 7

I wanted to get this up before 2019 came to a close but I just didn’t have the chance as it’s been a bit hectic around here this last week or so. Got this from Perpetual Page Turner and then added some of my own things or skipped some things I didn’t have answers for. 🙂

MOST READ AUTHORS:
Ilona Andrews -12

Louise Penny – 5

My thoughts on the year:
I am really surprised that I didn’t read as much horror and even feel that my mystery reading was down. It’s not a bad thing as it means I gave some other genres a chance and sometimes I need a palate cleansing read. I was surprised I didn’t read more ARC’s as I kind of thought I was but I guess I was getting a lot from the library…lol. Overall I think I had a pretty good reading year.

Best Books of 2019 (if I had to just list one from each reading category)

Adult Book:

With how this one ended I am really curious about the newest one coming out in March!

Young Adult:

I liked this one more than I thought I would!

Middle Grade:

I now need to read more of this author because I really enjoyed this one.

Most Disappointing

In the Valley of the Sun was probably my worst book of the year but it was still also disappointing, while The Devouring Gray was just slow of boring and I wanted to really like it.

Most Surprising

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this as usually YA mystery/thrillers are just so so.

Book I would recommend the most

How about series I would recommend?? 🙂 My two favorite series of the year that highly recommend!

Best first in series

I will pick something different so it’s not all the same books. 🙂

Such an adorable romance!

Best Sequel

Yep, had to put this on here somewhere! I love this series and this is #3 in the series.

Best End to a Series

Oh your killing me! I must pick two. 🙂

Best New to Me Author

So hard!

I can’t believe it has taking me this long to read Jeffery Deaver!

Best Debut Author

Samantha Downing knocked it out of the part with this disturbing yet very good thriller.

Most Unputdownable  (Is that a word ) 🙂

This whole series is unputdownable! Out of the three I read this year I think this was my favorite.

Favorite Cover

There were a few to choose from but I just really love the colors in this one.

Book I am happy I finally read

More like happy I finally read the author!

I will be reading more of her in 2020!

Book that shocked me the most

I think finding out who they thought the killer was in this one was most shocking!

Most memorable characters

Kate and Curran from Kate Daniels and Matthew and Diane from the All Souls Trilogy. It is a tie!

Favorite non-romantic couple

I am going to go with Kat and Daniel from the Kat Holloway Mysteries. They work really well together and I want them to be a couple and they have had a few moments but Kat refuses to be in a relationship with him because she doesn’t know what he does for a living and he can’t say, so trust issue.

Best Book From A Previously Read Author

This was the book that put in motion a lot of changes (so it was properly named!) within the storyline that I am not real sure I like but I still like the books after this one just not as much.

Newest Fictional Crush

If I am going to crush on a character in 2019 it would have to be Matthew from the All Souls Trilogy.

Best World-Building Or Setting

The way the magic and tech intertwine in this new world type setting was pretty cool. Also this is one of my favorite covers from this series. 🙂

Most Fun Read

This series always makes me laugh!

So there you have it a few fun stats from my 2019 reading!

I would like to make a note and remember the two bloggers who died of cancer in 2019. They were great bloggers and the blogging community has felt the lose. Tiffany and Grace will be missed!

Darn, I had high hopes for The Devouring Gray! I don’t do well with slow and boring! My horror total was top of the list if you add in my zombie category which I usually seperate. I read a lot more NF this year which was good as I have shelves of the stuff I need to get to!

  2. Barb @ Booker T's Farm

Great year long follow up. I am not surprised to see Kate and Curran and Matthew and Diana here. They’d make my list as well. And yep, In the Valley of the Sun would make mine as well as most disappointing.

You know I couldn’t do favorites without those two couples…lol. So I wonder what will be our new In the Valley of the Sun, Hunger, Little Heaven book this year!

What a great job you did in 2019! I love the different categories and I see so many of books I really love mentioned. That Eaton series is one of my absolute favorites as is the Jennifer Ashley series and Jenn McKinlay. I’m SO glad you enjoyed your Agatha Christie read. I can’t wait to see what you think of more of her books.

Thanks! It was fun looking back on things and it also made me realize I need to organize things better…lol. I can’t wait to read more Christie!
