Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her--or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
Set back this is going to be a bumpy ride!!! When Barb and I decided to tackle this series before watching the show I thought it was going to be so much better than it is, especially since it’s a Youtube darling!!! Go see what Barb @ Booker T’s Farm thought after you see my review!
Here is what I thought
Siege and Storm is book two in the Shadow and Bone series. When I first seen the trailer for the Netflix show, I thought hmm this looks cool. Maybe I should try the trilogy and then I asked Barb if she had read it and she hadn’t so we decided to try it. Regrets, I have so many regrets!!!
Since it’s book two and I think telling just about anything from this book would possible spoil book one this is going to be kind of short. Let’s just say after the events of the last book this one takes up pretty close to what happened. I just can’t really say what was going on as I don’t want to spoil anything.
So I thought the beginning was a bit of a snooze and then it picked up a little with the introduction to a new character, Strumhond, who later on turns out to be a different person but can’t say who cause spoilers! 🙂 Anyway, I really enjoyed this new character and was about the only cool thing in the whole book.
I thought the first book was boring with Alina learning she is a Sun Summoner and having to learn how to use her power and being whiny but in this one she and everything that happens up till about the last 30 pages was horribly boring and I just don’t see the hype of this series! (Sorry if you love it)
I can’t stand the main character, I think Alina is a whiny little snowflake, and she just drives me crazy. I actually like Mal (and Barb had heard that a lot of people didn’t like him in this one, but I think his attitude was a reflection of how Alina treated him.) he just wants to protect her and be there for her, etc.
I do think the Grisha magic stuff is cool and everything but this story just goes nowhere. Nothing happens, nothing happened in the first book till the last few pages and same with this book. I may have even skimmed some as I was bored. The ending was okay but I am in no hurry to get to the next book, in fact I told Barb I needed a break before diving in to the third book in hopes that it goes somewhere!
Okay rant over. 🙂 So maybe that wasn’t so short. 😉
