Lady Alexia Maccon, soulless, is at it again, only this time the trouble is not her fault. When a mad ghost threatens the queen, Alexia is on the case, following a trail that leads her deep into her husband's past. Top that off with a sister who has joined the suffragette movement (shocking!), Madame Lefoux's latest mechanical invention, and a plague of zombie porcupines and Alexia barely has time to remember she happens to be eight months pregnant.
Will Alexia manage to determine who is trying to kill Queen Victoria before it is too late? Is it the vampires again or is there a traitor lurking about in wolf's clothing? And what, exactly, has taken up residence in Lord Akeldama's second best closet?
Barb and I are almost done with another series! Check out what I thought then go over and see what Barb thought at Booker T’s Farm!
Here is what I thought
It’s so hard to review this series without spoilers but I am going to do my best so it’s going to be very vague!
I will just say that Alexia has something that nobody wants her to have and so someone is always trying to kill her. She thinks she has a way to keep the Vampires and others at bay but it isn’t something that Lord Maccon is all that happy about because he has to up end his pack and move to London which isn’t a great place for werewolves!
Meanwhile, a mad ghost has threatened the Queen and so Alexia along with Lord Maccon is trying to figure out what is going on. Alexia’s sister has decided to join the suffrage movement and his scampering around town dressed in things that would make their mother faint dead away. Though when Alexia find out exactly what her sister was up to it’s not good…lol.
Then when Alexia finds out who is really behind the ghost and the threats to the Queen she tries her best to stop the person without doing to much damage but the person is on quite a rampage through town which proved very interesting. 🙂
This is just one of the strangest series ever! I really like Alexia even if sometimes she can be annoying. I think Ivy has grown on me a bit, though Alexia’s sister on the other hand seems to grate on my nerves more. Lord Maccon just seems to hang out in these series but it’s really mostly about Alexia so I just think he is a middle of the road character.
I liked this one a bit more than I did the last book but there was still some things that seemed over the top and silly that made me roll my eyes.
Overall, I am enjoying it but I think the first one is still my favorite, but I am curious on how this will end with the next book!
Emily Gray does a really good job with this series.
