The move from New York to the decrepit Pennsylvania farmhouse is as bad as West Ridley thought it would be. His father’s crippling vertigo only seems to get worse, and even with his mother working herself to the bone, they’re out of money and options.
Grandpa Abraham is a drunk bastard and the living embodiment of the long neglected farmhouse. He claims the place is haunted. Ghosts roam the hall at night and their muffled cries fill the silence of warm, summer nights.
On the ceiling above West’s bed are the words WE SEE YOU. In a house plagued by death and mysterious visitations, West realizes something beyond the fiction of his favorite horror books has to be faced.
Dark secrets are buried deep, and there are Guardians who want to keep it that way. No matter where they go or what they do, West and his family know one thing… they are always watching.

First Line
When the money ran out, there was nowhere else to go but Grandpa Abraham’s.
Here is what I thought
Hunter Shea turned into a must read author the first time I read his book, The Jersey Devil. This one is my fourth book of his and it was just as wild as his others.
West’s family has fallen on hard times and has to move in with his grandpa. He has never met his grandpa and after meeting him he wasn’t real impressed as the man is mean. The house is rundown and filthy and he tells West that there are ghost in the house. West being a horror buff thinks that is cool until after he starts hearing things, then there is a strange carving above his bed that says, “We are watching.”
Soon some strange things starts to happen and they call themselves The Guardians. They keep making references to watching them and knowing things. When they had had enough and decided to go to a hotel for the night when they come back thing start getting real creepy.
It’s really hard to talk about without giving something away and this is one of those books where you think one thing and find out it’s a whole different thing and it’s a little slow in places but once you hit about 60% all you want to do is read till you finish as it’s just one wild ride!
The old man was just so mean and rude, but sometimes you felt sorry for him but not often. I really liked West, he is a great kid. I love that he reads horror novels and I think my TBR pile grew a little because I had to check out the books or authors talked about. West is use to having a pretty nice life so he could have been one of those horrid teens who complains and whines but he doesn’t. He wants to but he feels bad for his mother and doesn’t want to give her any more grief, now that is a great teen.
If you enjoy horror/suspense then you really should check this one out or any of Shea’s books because I haven’t read one I don’t enjoy yet. I am sure there will be more Shea buddy reads in the future! 🙂
This one is on my list. I enjoy Hunter’s books and a haunted house sounds creepy good to me!
I really like this one, so hope you get to it soon. 🙂
Got it waiting. Did you grab his megalodon book yet?
I didn’t get it but Barb did and she is going to lend it to me through kindle lending library so I can read it when she is done. 🙂 Have you read it?
Stormi,
I can lend it to you whenever you are ready. It will sadly be a month or more until I get to it.
Not yet. Saving it for the weekend!
I think West is one of my favorite characters. I realized after reading this some of my favorite horror books are ones with kids in them. So glad we read this one together!
He was a good character. Can’t wait for our next buddy read, hope Rosemary’s Baby is good!
Hunter Shea’s books always catch my eye. Such cool covers and fabulous stories.
He does have great covers and stories. 🙂
This one looks super spooky! I’m really not sure if I enjoy horror or not but this may be the author to try and find out!
