OH MY, was this week a hot one! So humid so that it felt like 109. My poor garden, but it’s holding in there. I don’t have a whole lot to add to how my garden is growing for a whole post but thought a few pics would do so you could see some yummy treats from the garden and my second attempt at pickles (cause we so did the first ones wrong and they were mush…lol.)

First spaghetti squash!                           First attempt at zucchini bread!

The second batch of pickles came out much  better and more filled out! My broccoli that I thought was dead has come back to life. 🙂

Okay, so I got some news. I don’t know if it was the birthday blues or mid-life crisis combined but I decided it’s time to go back to college. See I got a degree a while back in History, but then my mom died and I never did anything with it and just got stuck in a rut watching out for my dad. Well, I am 41 and got not much to show for it so I found out the local two-year college has a graphic design program so I am going to try that and go back and take some grammar courses (cause I really still want to write), as well as maybe a creative writing course eventually. Mostly I will be getting the graphic design degree if I choose too. This first semester is my dabbling in it to see what comes of it. My father said he would help me pay for it but I had to do something involving computers as that is the going thing these days job wise. So I am a bit nervous, but got my letter stating I have been processed and now need to speak to an advisor and get my transcripts from another college I went to, etc. Nervous but also excited. 🙂

Once I figure out what my class schedule is I will be looking for a part-time job that will work around it. Send me some positive vibes. 🙂

Well, that about does it for this week. 🙂

What you might have missed on my blog

Books I have added

A Story to Kill A Killer Closet Last of August

  • A Story to Kill – Lynn Cahoon is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors!
  • A Killer Closet – Just couldn’t help myself. 🙂
  • The Last of August – It’s book two of the Charlotte Holmes series and I liked the first one enough to want to check out the next one. 🙂 (Doesn’t come out till Feb of 2017! Hope I don’t forget I have in on my kindle)

Books read last week

What the dead want We are Holding the Pres Hostage To Love a Wolf

  • Sadly, I had to DNF What the Dead Want, it just wasn’t doing anything for me. I didn’t care about the MC and at the halfway mark I just didn’t care so I quit.
  • We are Holding the President Hostage – It’s a bit dated as it’s an older book but still was an interesting listen.
  • To Love a Wolf – Loved it as it involved my favorite SWAT wolf, Cooper. Though I thought I might have to whoop up on the author for putting him through the wringer. 🙂

Currently reading

Murder most curious death of an english muffin cryptic lines

What might be up next

Liar, liar assualt and pepper

  1. Looks like your garden is producing very well! I’ve got a surplus of peppers of all kinds and a few tomatoes but everything else is suffering in this heat.
Congrats on going back to school! I want to go back for graphic design as well. Good luck with everything! 🙂

    • Stormi

Thanks, my poor garden is having it’s ups and downs. My tomatoes are not turning red fast enough so I can can them! But other things are growing well. My peppers are not doing as well as I would like. This weather is beating them down.

I am so nervous about going back to school! 🙂

  2. Ugh my garden is seriously struggling too. We went from too cold for much of anything to happen to too hot for anything to happen and throw in the fact that I was distracted and unmotivated and I’m just glad the local farmer’s markets are good! That’s great about going back to school! I know you’ll do fantastic and I’m sure it will feel good to be heading on a new course event though it’s a bit nerve racking. I had to get Killer Closets too. Couldn’t resist it! Have a great week!

    • Stormi

The heat is really beating my garden down right now, hoping for a little rain this coming week..fingers crossed. 🙂

So nervous about school and being the older person in class…lol.

  3. My veg patch this summer is a disgrace – we have let it stay fallow as I’m simply too busy to tend to it this year… Congratulations on applying to college and go you! Hope you thoroughly enjoy it and ditto with the writing. Are there any small writing groups or clubs you can join in the meantime? That was how I got involved in the local writing scene way back and it has helped me enormously over the years – and certainly contributed to my becoming a creative writing tutor at the local college! Have a great reading week and take care.

    • Stormi

Thanks! My writing is more my grammar…it stinks…lol. I have lots of ideas but I have a little problem with descriptive paragraphs, etc. You know the stuff that bulks out the book…lol.

Maybe I will find a writing club in college. 🙂

  4. Congrats on going back to school!!! I’ve been thinking about it myself lately. I want to get my master’s so I can become a counselor. Best of luck to you and happy reading!!

  5. Can you feel it. I sent some positive vibes your way. Good for you on going back to college. I toy with the idea but never do it. I’m told it’s never too late and I’m over the 50 mark. I sometimes wonder if our struggles to write reviews is a big help in lessons on writing. We do write our own thoughts and blurbs.
Sorry I’ve missed some posts. I had a black screen on my baby and thought it had finally died. My computer guru said it just got corrupted and it’s as good as new! My sister said I probably confused it and she was right! Enjoy those new books, Stormi. You get actual physical copies of your audibles. That’s awesome!

    • Stormi

Oh look at all those positive vibes….lol. Thanks. Yeah, that is what they told me it’s not too late to go back so I am going to try. It will just be weird being in class with a bunch of young ones…lol.

Oh no, you have been having so much problem with your poor computer/internet lately…maybe you need me to send you some positive vibes. 🙂 Glad it was fixable!

  6. It has been SO hot! Glad your garden is surviving- the zucchini bread looks good. 🙂

Congrats on going back to school! Sounds exciting- sending you those good vibes!

Killer Closet looks good and I need to try one of Lynn Cahoon’s books at some point.

    • Stormi

So hot! We are getting a bit of a cool down this week but then they say next week will be another scorcher. 🙁

You so need tot try Lynn Cahoon she is one of my favorites. 🙂

  7. That sounds wonderful, congratulations! School, garden, blog, canning, busy lady! I was tempted by Killer Closet but resisted. I utterly failed at resisting other books however, lol. Your zuchinni bread looks good, how did it turn out?

    • Stormi

Thanks, so nervous though…lol. I am starting to get pretty busy…when school gets to going I am afraid my reading my tank. 🙁

  8. Your garden is looking great! I was monitoring the temperature last night. It was still 100 degrees at midnight. It’s not cooling off in the evenings like it was in the beginning of summer. I’m glad you are going back to school! I think it’s fantastic. With as many hours as I put in at the school, I don’t think there’s any way for me to ever go back to school unless I go down to elementary. Can’t wait to hear how your new journey goes!

    • Stormi

Oh so hot! It rained today so got a bit of a cool down but they say next week is going be hot again. 🙁

Going back to school has me with a case of the nerves! 🙁 🙂

  9. Omg … I need that zucchini bread. Yum! Oh good luck with going back to school. You’ll do great. I like accumulating degrees, so I’ve never really stopped going to school. lol.

    • Stormi

It was my first attempt at Zucchini bread and it was pretty tasty, I was afraid of how it would taste but it was good. 🙂

  10. Way to go, Stormi!! You are going to be so happy about going back to college, I just know it!! And my going back to school was a midlife crisis as well… I was 39 when I started my BA in English.
I can’t wait to hear about your meeting with the college, and see how your classes will be spread out during the week. Sending lots of positive vibes your way, of course 🙂
Enjoy all your new books and have a wonderful week, my friend.

    • Stormi

Glad I am not the only one who did a middle life crisis school thing. 🙂 I am so nervous though…lol. 🙂

  11. That’s great news that you are headed back to school. Sounds like you have it all planned out and I am sure you will do great! My husband keeps encouraging me to go back and get my masters, but I wouldn’t really want to get it in social work, which is the field I work in, so I’ve held off. Also, I don’t want to have to pay another student loan off.

Glad to hear your garden is surviving the heat – I’m afraid I may not if it continues much longer. It’s making me extremely moody and snarky and just plain miserable. Your books this week look great and I don’t think I’m actually picking any of them up after seeing them here which is unusual lately (of course that only means that ones you have I’m interested in I already own).

    Have a wonderful week!

    • Stormi

I am not surviving the heat very well either! We are getting a small cool down today but it’s not going to last. 🙁

  12. Congrats on deciding to go back to school! It sounds like your classes will be really interesting.

Your zucchini bread looks delicious. That reminds me that I haven’t made that in a long time. Maybe I will make some this week!

  13. Congrats on your decision to go back to school. I’m considering that as well–possibly going into a MLS program to become a librarian. I’m in the early stages of researching it, so we’ll see if it pans out.

  14. Good luck with school! I think graphic design sounds like an excellent choice — it ought to prove a marketable skill with how everyone is all about making money online and whatnot. No to mention you could use your blog for handy practice, I’m sure 😉

  15. I used to love having a vegetable garden but stopped a few years ago and now struggle to restart. Good luck with college, sounds like you have the desire so am sure it will all go well.

  16. Oh wow Stormi, that sounds really exciting and what a great life change you’re making. I think it’s great and so wonderful to pursue something that interests you.
